What to do with an attorney general who disdains justice

You might recall that Attorney General William Barr, both in writing and at a news conference, gave a less-than-accurate account (to put it diplomatically) of the report conducted by Robert Mueller. He suggested that the special counsel in the Russia probe refused to reach a conclusion on guilt (rather than being restrained by Justice Department policy against indictment of a sitting president) and worse, suggested that President Donald Trump had been exonerated. Time and again, the Justice Department under Barr has taken factually and legally suspect positions (e.g. defending a census question based on false representations to the courts, finding no basis for a criminal investigation against Trump for campaign violations in soliciting Ukraine's help to announce an investigation into a political rival, blocking the inspector general from presenting the whistleblower complaint to Congress, asserting "absolute immunity" to prevent production of witnesses and documents). State Attorneys General to Launch Big Tech Antitrust Investigation Monday

State attorneys general will launch one of the largest bipartisan, multi-state antitrust investigations into Facebook and Google on Monday.State attorneys general spanning across dozens of states will announce an antitrust investigation into Google and Facebook, and other technology companies at the Supreme Court at 2:00 p.m. ET Monday. The investigation will investigate whether America’s largest technology companies have stifled competition, restricted access, and harmed consumers. A Wall Street Journal report suggested that New York Attorney General Letitia James will lead the investigation into Facebook, while Texas Attorney General Attorneys Ken Paxton will lead the investigation into Google. Report: Attorneys General Probe of Big Tech Could Launch in September

State attorneys general could launch an antitrust investigation into America’s largest technology companies as soon as next month, according to a report released Monday.The Wall Street Journal reported that several attorneys general continue to move forward with an antitrust investigation of Silicon Valley, focusing on whether these companies stifle competition by using their marketplace powers. The attorneys general would likely issue civil investigative demands, which act similarly to subpoenas, to tech giants and other companies. The report arises as President Donald Trump’s Department of Justice (DOJ) announced its antitrust review, which will focus mainly on Google and Facebook. The Journal reported in June that several attorneys general were considering a probe into antitrust concerns regarding Silicon Valley. Report: State Attorneys General to Launch Google, Facebook Antitrust Investigations

State attorneys general will launch an antitrust investigation into Facebook and Google next week, according to a report released Friday.New York Attorney General Letitia James said Friday that she has worked with a bipartisan group of attorneys general on an antitrust probe into Facebook. James said in a statement to the Wall Street Journal: I am proud to be leading a bipartisan coalition of attorneys general in investigating whether Facebook has stifled competition and put users at risk. We will use every investigative tool at our disposal to determine whether Facebook’s actions may have endangered consumer data, reduced the quality of consumers’ choices, or increased the price of advertising.  The attorneys general of Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee, and D.C. will join the investigation, James said.
