PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — For almost a decade, a Northeast Philadelphia man and his family have brought joy to hundreds of children, finding new homes for bikes. Ukee Washington has this week’s story of Brotherly Love. Sophia might be only nine, but she has a steady hand with a paintbrush. She and a group of friends are touching up the paint on used bicycles. “You get to be outside and paint stuff for other people,” Madison Kropilek said. “We’re painting them for the kids that are less fortunate ,” Isabella Ryan said. These bikes are used, but they still have a lot of life in them. Sophia’s grandfather, Chris Guinan, has made it his mission to get used bikes to new homes. Chris Guinan “Even at 9 years old, that child understands what sometimes I think adults overlook,” Guinan said. Despite three years having passed since Hurricane María pummeled Puerto Rico, there are many people still suffering from its aftermath, especially as relief and recovery efforts have been ever so slow. Are you eligible to get your coronavirus vaccine right now?
Arizona alone has had over 818,000 COVID-19 cases and upwards of 16,000 deaths. With around 1,000 COVID-19 cases being reported daily recently, some students may be eager to get vaccinated. The good news is that there are three U.S. Food and Drug Administration-approved vaccines. Unfortunately, the general population of college students has yet to receive them . David Salafsky is the interim co-executive director of Health Promotion & Preventive Services. He works with Campus Health and is waiting to see when the vaccine distribution will be approved. Through a series of questions, Salafsky was able to identify what factors contribute to the time in which vaccines will be distributed to students. The Daily Wildcat spoke with Salafsky.
