(CNN) If the Oscars needed a general theme this year beyond just honoring the best in movies, the closure of the Arclight and Pacific cinema chain has perhaps given them one: Spread the message to save theaters. The announcement that Pacific Theatres saw no economically viable path forward to reopen its outlets in California -- including the legendary Cinerama Dome in Hollywood -- rippled through the entertainment industry on Monday, prompting people to reminisce about movies they had seen there. "I'm so sad," tweeted actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt , summing up the response. "I remember going to the Cinerama Dome to see 'Star Trek IV' with my dad when I was little. So many memories since then. " Others shared similar stories. Personally, that would include seeing "The Wind and the Lion" as a kid back in the mid-1970s, watching Sean Connery -- who will be among the standout names in this year's Academy Awards "In Memoriam" segment -- wield a sword in epic, … [Read more...] about The Oscars suddenly have a bigger mission: Help save movie theaters

Breitbart Sports: Masters Post-Mortem
Congratulations to Hideki Matsuyama for hanging tough and prevailing at the 2021 Masters. It was nice to see an athlete fulfill his life-long dream and not even crack a smile. He did not smile when he won. It was amazing. I think we’re all tired of the over-emoting, hysterical athlete. Give me more of the Hideki far-off -glazed-over-eyes look. There were no fist pumps, no dancing, no gyrating, and definitely no tears. If this is what the Japanese are like, then book me a ticket to Tokyo. That’s in Japan, right? The other competitors let him off the hook, though. Hideki’s one over par 73 shouldn’t have been good enough to win, but fair play to him- he did enough. Xander Schauffele made a charge with 4 consecutive birdies cutting the lead to 2 strokes on the 16th hole. He then promptly hit it in the water and triple bogey. From there on out, Hideki could coast home. He made a bogey on 16 and 18, which gave him a one-shot victory. All in all, it was a disappointing Sunday of golf … [Read more...] about Breitbart Sports: Masters Post-Mortem

They moved the All-Star Game from Atlanta, which is 51% Black, to Denver, which is 76% White. What were they smoking? Well, it is Colorado, so maybe weed, because you've got to be mile high to think this was a solution, for a number of reasons that aren't Colorado's fault. It's just that in this new woke world, skin color is everything. So to help Black people, MLB moved the game to Denver, which is Whiter than the slopes in Aspen, and made sure Black-owned businesses in Atlanta lost millions in profit. Like most woke policies, they make the folks in charge feel good while harming the people they insist they're … [Read more...] about Gutfeld: MLB moving All-Star Game to Denver makes them feel good, but hurts those they insist on helping
Matthew McConaughey: How actor’s wife ‘injected’ soccer into his blood
(CNN) Before he became one of Hollywood's leading men, before the Oscar for best actor in 2014 and he went Interstellar on the silver screen, Matthew McConaughey was learning his craft and, in fact, preparing to shoot his very first scene. In 1993, he delivered an ad-libbed line -- "Alright, alright, alright!" -- that would stay with him throughout the arc of his career and is now going to feature prominently in a new venture that he could never have imagined when he was cast as David Wooderson in the coming-of-age movie, "Dazed and Confused." The 51-year-old McConaughey is now a co-owner of Austin FC -- Major League Soccer's newest franchise -- and ahead of the new season, Austin supporters are chanting those words to the tune of "Olé, olé, olé!" Speaking exclusively to CNN Sport , McConaughey marveled at the trajectory of those three little words. "If you said that night, 'That line you just threw out of your mouth, someone's going to be … [Read more...] about Matthew McConaughey: How actor’s wife ‘injected’ soccer into his blood
