A combination of falling gas prices, well-thought-of car brands, a recovering economy and Black Friday fanfare apparently made November one of the better months on record in recent years for two of the Detroit Three automakers. On Tuesday, Chrysler (FCAU) reported U.S. sales of its cars and trucks increased by 20 percent last month, compared to November of 2013, making this the company's best November since 2001. General Motors (GM) said it had its strongest November in seven years, with total sales rising 6 percent last month compared to a year ago. DETROIT - Ford, Nissan and Fiat Chrysler each reported big U.S. sales gains in March as the auto industry appeared to be headed for its best month in more than a decade. The increases showed that Americans are still buying cars and trucks in big numbers, despite predictions by some analysts and dealers that sales have peaked. "Sales in the first quarter of this year continue to expand, and the overall retail mix suggests consumers are still feeling confident," said Eric Lyman, vice president of industry insights for the TrueCar.com auto pricing site. Nissan sales were up 13 percent, hitting a record for any month in its history. At Fiat Chrysler and Ford, sales were up 8 percent, while they grew 0.9 percent at General Motors. Ford and Fiat Chrysler posted their best March numbers in a decade. Industry analysts … [Read more...] about Auto sales headed toward best month in 10 years
After nearly 50 years in the automotive business, Chuck Boyle is turning in his keys and slowly letting the next generation of Boyles take over. The Bel Air resident, 66, who went to work for his father at Boyle Buick in Abingdon after he graduated from high school, retired in January.Boyle said he won’t ever truly walk away – he’s still involved financially and strategically as chairman of the dealership’s board, but he won’t be involved in daily operations.“I won’t let it go because of my financial interest, but I do need to let it go from the standpoint of letting them run it. I gotta get out of the way, in a positive way,” he said. “The industry has changed so much. It’s evolved, so high-tech, from traditional to digital. That’s the space the younger generation understands so much better than I do and they perform within that spectrum better than I do.”Boyle’s younger brother, Chris Boyle, 57, is the new … [Read more...] about After nearly 50 years, Chuck Boyle retires from Boyle Buick GMC
