NEW CASTLE COUNTY, Del. (CBS) — If you’re looking to adopt a new best friend, the Brandywine Valley SPCA has opened its doors to some furry evacuees from the south. Three planes full of cats and dogs arrived in Delaware over the weekend and on Tuesday, more than 200 pets are ready for adoption. Some shelters in Texas and Louisiana couldn’t care for all of the animals so many of them were sent north. SUN VALLEY (CBSLA) – A man lost his life Saturday after being struck by a driver, who fled the scene and is still at large. It happened at the intersection of Coldwater Canyon and Roscoe Boulevard in Sun Valley. A victim believed to be in his fifties or sixties was driving a silver Mini Cooper when he was struck by a Silverado pick-up truck that ran a red light, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. “The force of the collision forced the cars into another vehicle, a silver Pathfinder that was stopped at the red light,” said the L.A.P.D. George Banna was driving the silver Pathfinder that was hit. “I was stopped at a light and all of the sudden I heard a loud bang,” said Banna Saturday. “By the time I look, I see a truck spinning and coming towards me. MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Fire officials say the main building of Northfield’s historic Archer House River Inn is a total loss after a fire spread throughout the building Thursday afternoon, with crews battling the flames into the early morning hours of Friday. The fire broke out inside the Smoqehouse Restaurant, which is one of several businesses inside the Archer House. RELATED: Mpls. LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) — Police are asking for the public’s help to identify a suspect involved in a hit-and-run crash in Sun Valley that killed a Glendale man over the weekend. The crash happened Saturday morning in the intersection of Coldwater Canyon and Roscoe boulevards. The LAPD says a Chevrolet Silverado pickup was going north on Coldwater Canyon when it ran a red light at Roscoe and collided with the driver’s side of an older model Morris Minor that was driving west on Roscoe. SANTA ANA (CBSLA) — Friday marked the first day the community vaccination site opened at Santa Ana Valley High School in the Santa Ana Unified School District. 92-year-old Justina Perez survived coronavirus and on Friday, the Santa Ana grandmother received the first dose of protection by getting the Pfizer vaccine. “Kind of nervous because we don’t know how this is going to go. She’s 92 years old so hopefully, it goes good,” her granddaughter Gina Perez said. Five-hundred people were invited to the vaccine clinic — all of them over 65 years old. This clinic is an example of how the county and the school district are addressing health inequity. These patients for the most part have issues with transportation or perhaps they don’t have WiFi.
