For all the — face it — low-brow crap that will prompt you to type "smh" in the comments, there's another post that will make you "lol." Our first dose of pure, unfettered joy this week is courtesy of a burly guy cruising along a New York City street on a motorcycle, belting out his favorite Katy Perry song. What's even better is 32-year-old Anthony Medlin's response after learning the video of him riding his new Harley-Davidson down Soho's Spring Street garnered something like 6 million views. "I said, 'Wow, people are really liking this,'" Medlin told Patch. NHL officiating back under microscope in Stanley Cup Final
(AP) – Jon Cooper backtracked and shifted a possible missed call to the rearview mirror with the expertise of a coach who has been here before. Counterpart Jared Bednar, on the verge of his first NHL championship, sought to settle the issue once and for all and move on. Still, the Stanley Cup Final is roaring toward a conclusion full of uncertainty about the officiating, which is in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons after Nazem Kadri’s overtime goal put the Colorado Avalanche up 3-1 in the best-of-seven series. DENVER, CO – JUNE 18: Tampa Bay Lightning left wing Ondrej Palat (18) and Colorado Avalanche right wing Logan O’Connor (25) are separated by the referee in the third period during the Stanley Cup Finals game 2 between the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Colorado Avalanche at Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado on June 18, 2022. Adley Rutschman Leads Orioles Past Hobbled White Sox 4-0
CHICAGO (AP) — Touted rookie Adley Rutschman homered, doubled and drove in three runs to lead the Baltimore Orioles past the banged-up Chicago White Sox 4-0 on Thursday night. Ryan Mountcastle had two doubles among his three hits as the Orioles won their second in a row and third in four. READ MORE: Maryland Weather: A Beautiful Friday Ahead Of What Should Be A Beautiful Weekend The switch-hitting Rutschman entered batting just .211 with one homer and four RBIs, but the 24-year-old catcher is hitting .341 (14 for 41) in his last 12 games. “He’s really talented and there’s always an adjustment period in the big leagues,” Baltimore manager Brandon Hyde said. “But he’s got big-time tools and a ton of ability and you saw the power tonight.” Rutschman, the No. 1 overall pick in 2019 out of Oregon State, said he’s taking a … [Read more...] about Adley Rutschman Leads Orioles Past Hobbled White Sox 4-0
Will The Jan. 6 Hearings Change Anyone’s Mind?
56 Politics & Government The America of 2022 is divided as never before. Pro Publica , News Partner Posted Replies By Stephen Engelberg, ProPublica June 17, 2022 In July of 1973, a young, preppy-looking lawyer named Gordon Strachan appeared before the Senate Watergate Committee and acknowledged his role in the cover-up of America's most consequential burglary. When he finished, a senator asked 29-year-old Strachan if he had any advice for young people interested in public service. "Stay away," he said. "It may not be the type of advice you could look back and want to give, but my advice would be to stay away." I was among the millions of Americans glued to the television that summer, a gangly teenager with dreams of working some day in politics. The Watergate hearings changed the nation's perception of President Richard Nixon, laying the groundwork for his impeachment. The hearings, and the role played … [Read more...] about Will The Jan. 6 Hearings Change Anyone’s Mind?
U.S. Navy to Wargame Impact of ‘Climate Change’ on Future Conflicts
An open-source wargame to gauge “how climate change could affect a future conflict” has been scheduled for the U.S. Navy in a continuation of President Joe Biden’s executive order on sustainability. The half-day exercise next week will feature staff from Capitol Hill, the Defense Department, the defense industry, think tanks and academia. Navy assistant secretary for energy, installations and environment Meredith Berger previewed the planned table-top exercise during a Defense Writers Group breakfast, as reported by USNI News . The purpose of the June 29 event is “to come together and really think about and experience what it means to operate in a climate-impacted environment,” Berger said. “We’re going to create the right level of stress in a very responsible way to see that it is hard to make these choices and there [are] unanticipated consequences and there’re costs and impacts and all sorts of intervening circumstances that we need to think about from each other’s … [Read more...] about U.S. Navy to Wargame Impact of ‘Climate Change’ on Future Conflicts
Costco violates animal welfare laws to sell $4.99 chicken, suit says
To better control the price and size of its chickens, Costco decided to wean itself off major poultry producers and build its own supply network in the Midwest, where the company created an entire infrastructure from scratch. It was a half-billion-dollar gamble that some worried would hurt the warehouse club's reputation, even as it kept the company supplied with millions of chickens that Costco roasts in-house and sells at a loss to attract new members and more foot traffic. Last year, not even 24 months into its poultry experiment, Costco was the target of an undercover investigation by Mercy for Animals, which showed a Nebraska barn crowded with birds, some with open sores, sitting in their own feces because they were too top-heavy to walk. The investigation led to a Nicholas Kristof opinion piece in The New York Times. It also led to news stories in Nebraska, where Costco built a $450 million poultry complex in Fremont, as well as a petition to urge the company to adopt better … [Read more...] about Costco violates animal welfare laws to sell $4.99 chicken, suit says
Supreme Court ruling proves we weren’t ‘hysterical,’ we were right
close Video Biden says protests to Supreme Court abortion decision must remain peaceful Bret Baier says President Biden asked that the American people remain peaceful after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. NEW You can now listen to Fox News articles! We warned you. Repeatedly. We said this day would come. We were called "hysterical," and "erratic," and "stupid." And here we are. What the Supreme Court did today spat in the face of the basic concept that powers this country: liberty. Six unelected politicians in robes used their high perches in the government to tell every single American woman exactly what she can or cannot do with her own body. It’s a fundamentally un-American action, and they did it in one fell swoop — and they didn’t even have the decency to show their faces when they snatched our rights away. SUPREME COURT OVERTURNS ROE V. WADE IN LANDMARK OPINION It’s important to recognize how we got here. … [Read more...] about Supreme Court ruling proves we weren’t ‘hysterical,’ we were right

Arts & Entertainment A Hard-Hitting Band's Revelations of Recovery Jennifer Perez , Community Contributor Posted Reply "Everything in my music is high, loud, and abrupt – because I have something to say," says Greyson Grimes, vocalist and songwriter of Happy To Be Here. Alongside his co-conspirator and collaborator James Hamilton, Greyson fronts the powerhouse four-piece Los Angeles-based band whose courageous message of hope, healing, and rebirth is portrayed in a riveting new track titled "Me Now." Unleashing a voice tinged with melancholy, Grimes is a singularly expressive singer. He says that the story of "Me Now" --- co-written with Hamilton -- reflects on an inner conversation about ghosting a girl with whom he had a long distance relationship. "The acknowledgment that I'd hurt someone, but I was so wounded myself." He says … [Read more...] about “Me Now” A New Single From Happy To Be
Jesse Rivest Comes Alive on “Nostargic”
0 This post was contributed by a community member. The views expressed here are the author's own. Arts & Entertainment A stunning release Jennifer Perez , Community Contributor Posted Reply Jesse Rivest is a singer-songwriter, guitarist, and self-producing artist. An observant, introspective, yet adventurous soul, his songs aren't written seeking to effect change. However, the fact that he's been writing and performing them for about 20 years, all the while living around the world leaving light footprints, has had an unintentional consequence. With his new single "Nostargic," he draws a parallel, allured by the idea that perhaps memories are like starlight, still reaching us long after their sources have burned out. A dose of nostalgia can stone us as much as a starry sky; both are intoxicating encounters with something that once was. The fire pit in the music video ties in with the penultimate lyric, "if I could I'd find … [Read more...] about Jesse Rivest Comes Alive on “Nostargic”
