Former Arizona lawmaker Gabby Giffords launched a new advocacy group Thursday, forging connections with corporations including Dick’s Sporting Goods, Lyft, and Postmates to promote gun control laws. The “Giffords Impact Network” says it intends “to leverage corporate brand-power and resources” to the ends of enacting greater restrictions on Second Amendment rights. In a tweet boasting of its corporate allies, the group said it intends to “engage more companies” to spread the gun control message. The businesses listed as “founding partners” are: sporting goods retailer Dick’s; clothing companies TOMS, Kenneth Cole, and Levi Strauss; financial institutions Amalgamated Bank and Mesirow; gig-worker services Lyft and Postmates; and New York healthcare company Northwell Health. New Jersey Could Soon Celebrate Bruce Springsteen Day, Grover Cleveland Week
TRENTON, N.J. (CBS/AP) — “The Boss” could soon get his own honorary day in the Garden State. New Jersey would celebrate Bruce Springsteen Day and Grover Cleveland Week under resolutions that advanced in the Legislature on Thursday. A Democratic-led committee approved them. Cleveland was born in Caldwell and was the only person to serve two non-consecutive terms as President of the United States. He has a service area named after him on the New Jersey Turnpike. New York City Movie Theaters Reopen Friday, As Tri-State Area Eases COVID Restrictions
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — New York City movie theaters can welcome back audiences Friday, catching up to others across the rest of state. Theaters can reopen at 25% capacity, with no more than 50 people per screen at a time.
