Police on Friday took nearly 100 people into custody following a sixth straight night of protests following the fatal police shooting of 20-year-old Daunte Wright . While protests this week had remained relatively peaceful in Brooklyn Center, Minn., where a police officer shot and killed Wright during a Sunday traffic stop, authorities said that they gave dispersal orders Friday after crowds of demonstrators attempted to break the fence surrounding the Brooklyn Center Police Department, ABC News reported. Minnesota Department of Public Safety Commissioner John Harrington said in a press conference that there were about 500 people protesting throughout the streets of the city Friday evening, when he said some demonstrators started shaking the fence and throwing glass bottles. Loveland Police Respond To Federal Lawsuit Claiming ‘Excessive Use Of Force’ During Arrest Of 73-Year-Old Woman
LOVELAND, Colo. (CBS4) – The Loveland Police Department is responding to a federal lawsuit that alleges “excessive use of force” and serious injury during an arrest of a woman in her 70s. The department became aware of the lawsuit on Wednesday after body camera video was posted on the Loveland Police Department’s Facebook page. Police said they will investigate the incident that will include “an examination of all images, documents and records compiled” in connection with the event. Garner was suspected of having taken $13.88 in items from a Walmart without paying for them. Judge orders Minnesota officers not to arrest, use force against journalists
A federal judge in Minnesota granted a temporary restraining order that says law enforcement officers cannot arrest or use physical force against journalists covering the Duante Wright protests. U.S. District Judge Wilhelmina Wright issued the order on Friday and it is in effect for the next two weeks, the Twin Cities Pioneer Press reported . The order states that p olice cannot use physical force or chemical agents against the media, or take away their press passes. ADVERTISEMENT Journalists argued in court that they were “directed by law enforcement to vacate the protest area, physically grabbed, struck by less-lethal projectiles and rubber bullets, and pepper sprayed.” Although journalists did not have to abide by curfews, they were still required to leave areas when dispersal orders were given. A Florida nurse was arrested this week after authorities say she allegedly threatened to kill Vice President Harris.
