Sherman’s father, Marine Mal Sherman, and Kennedy’s father, the late President John F. Kennedy, almost died in fighting on the Solomons. Kennedy had been the commander of a patrol torpedo boat that was rammed and sunk by a Japanese destroyer. Officials Blast Amnesty International Report Accusing Ukraine of Endangering Civilians
A report from Amnesty International published Thursday claims that Ukrainian forces are putting civilians at risk by setting up bases in residential neighborhoods, even as authorities continue to deride Russian forces for committing atrocities against Ukrainians. “Ukrainian forces have put civilians in harm’s way by establishing bases and operating weapons systems in populated residential areas, including in schools and hospitals, as they repelled the Russian invasion that began in February,” Amnesty International said in a statement. “Such tactics violate international humanitarian law and endanger civilians, as they turn civilian objects into military targets.” Russian strikes have hit civilians in populous areas where Ukraine has set up bases, Amnesty said. Ukraine’s tactics have put civilians in harm’s way in 19 towns, in part because they launched strikes from residential areas and based themselves in civilian buildings in the Kharkiv, Donbas, and Mykolaiv regions, … [Read more...] about Officials Blast Amnesty International Report Accusing Ukraine of Endangering Civilians

Kevin Smith Slams Warner Bros. for Axing ‘Batgirl’ but Still Releasing ‘The Flash’: ‘That Is Baffling’
Click here to read the full article. Kevin Smith spoke out against Warner Bros.’ axing of “ Batgirl ” during the latest episode of his “Hollywood Babble-On” YouTube show. The filmmaker called it “an incredible bad look” for the studio to drop the rare comic book tentpole to be headlined by a Latina actor, especially when Warner Bros. is still moving forward on the release of its Ezra Miller-led tentpole “ The Flash .” “It’s an incredibly bad look to cancel the Latina Batgirl movie,” Smith said. “I don’t give a shit if the movie was absolute fucking dog shit – I guarantee you that it wasn’t. The two directors [Bilall Fallah and Adil El Arbi] who directed that movie did a couple of episodes of ‘Ms. Marvel,’ and it was a wonderful fucking show and they had more money to do ‘Batgirl’ than they had to do an episode of ‘Ms. Marvel’ and stuff.” More from Variety 'Scoob!: Holiday Haunt' Producer Reveals Score Being Recorded After Film's Axing: 'Already Paid for the … [Read more...] about Kevin Smith Slams Warner Bros. for Axing ‘Batgirl’ but Still Releasing ‘The Flash’: ‘That Is Baffling’

Does renter's insurance cover everything? Whether you are signing up for the first time or you have had a renter's insurance policy for years, here’s what you need to know about your coverage: Your landlord’s insurance Many renters assume they don’t need their own insurance because they do not own the building they live in, but that thinking could cost you. “Your landlord’s insurance should cover losses to the structure that you are renting, but not your personal items,” said Troy Thompson , an insurance agent with Pinnacle Insurance Agency in Coon Rapids, MN. So, if you do not have renter's insurance and disaster strikes your apartment, you will have to pay to replace all of your belongings that are damaged or destroyed. Since last summer, a start-up in beta mode has been soliciting volunteers to take part in 55-minute sessions called “gathers,” where strangers discuss their deepest hopes and fears. On a recent night I was one of about 20 volunteers who logged on to a remote session moderated by Shamicka Jones , an actress, dancer and model who, in Peoplehood-speak, is a “superconnector.” Wearing a sweatshirt with “PPLHD” across the front, Ms. Jones had an infectiously upbeat presence. After leading us through a series of breathing exercises, she introduced the topic of the day: uncertainty. Before … [Read more...] about SoulCycle Without the Bike: Here Comes Peoplehood
