Food Notes: Enjoy Honeycrisp apples during their short season
The local season is short; if you love them than you should seek out this hybrid now because availability is limited and many local farms don't have a lot of trees. The exception is Terhune Orchards in Lawrence, where 1,300 new Honeycrisp trees were planted this year. Unfortunately they won't start bearing fruit for three more years, so for now, find Honeycrisp where you can. When the local season ends, you can look for them in the supermarket; this is an apple that is grown throughout the world, so availability varies according to where the apples are grown. The price of Honeycrisp often is higher than other apples due to their limited availability. If you don't find any Honeycrisp, you can look for Keepsake apples, which is one of its parents. The other parent apple, a University of Minnesota cultivar MN1627, isn't one you can find at your local market. If you are a fan of Honeycrisp, you aren't alone. It is projected by the U.S. Apple Association to be rank fifth as America's … [Read more...] about Food Notes: Enjoy Honeycrisp apples during their short season

SAN DIEGO, Aug. 20, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- With observances in September including “Ice Cream Cone Day,” “Cream Filled Donut Day,” “Blueberry Popsicle Day,” and “Chocolate Day,” Dr. Doug Disraeli reminds San Diegans that while some of the food-themed holidays we may see on our Twitter and Instagram feeds look delicious, they may not always be the best for people’s teeth, and he offers tips on how to enjoy mouth-watering treats while still maintaining dental health. /EIN News/ -- Says Dr. Disraeli, who has practiced at Doug Disraeli D.D.S. in Hillcrest in San Diego for over 35 years, “There is a day for every food on almost every single day of the year.
