West Virginia governor plans to sign bill restricting transgender athletes

West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice (R) on Wednesday confirmed his intention to sign a new bill that would prevent transgender middle and high school athletes from participating in team sports that match their gender identity. During a briefing on the coronavirus pandemic , Justice commented on the bill approved by the Republican-dominated state legislature last week, saying that he would “let it become law or sign it,” and that he was “absolutely not” in support of vetoing the measure, one of several pieces of anti-transgender legislation advancing in GOP-led states. “From the standpoint of how I feel about it personally … I just can’t possibly get through my head that it is the right thing for us at a middle school level or a high school level in our state for me not to support the bill,” Justice explained. “So, I do support the bill.” ADVERTISEMENT The legislation, in addition to limiting participation for transgender athletes, would also require students to … [Read more...] about West Virginia governor plans to sign bill restricting transgender athletes

Biden Administration’s Proposed Rule Props Up ‘1619 Project’ as Model for K-12 American History and Civics

The Biden education department proposed a rule Monday urging the development of “culturally responsive teaching” in American History and Civics and holding up the widely discredited New York Times ’ “1619 Project” as a model for schools to teach children the United States is fundamentally a racist nation. The U.S. Education Department states the proposed rule is in keeping with President Joe Biden’s executive order titled “Advancing Racial Equity and Support for Underserved Communities Through the Federal Government.” “[T]here is growing acknowledgement [SIC] of the importance of including, in the teaching and learning of our country’s history, both the consequences of slavery, and the significant contributions of Black Americans to our society,” the education department states in providing background for the proposed rule. “This acknowledgement [SIC] is reflected, for example, in the New York Times ‘ landmark ‘1619 Project’ and in the resources of the Smithsonian’s … [Read more...] about Biden Administration’s Proposed Rule Props Up ‘1619 Project’ as Model for K-12 American History and Civics

‘Real Housewives of the GOP’ — Wannabe reality show narcissists commandeer the party

Donald Trump Donald Trump Graham: 'I could not disagree more' with Trump support of Afghanistan troop withdrawal GOP believes Democrats handing them winning 2022 campaign Former GOP operative installed as NSA top lawyer resigns MORE has proven to be a loser — and a sore one at that — but he has won something. He managed to transform the GOP into a party in his own image: an outsized, narcissistic cast of mini-me sycophants. Just like the maestro, none of them appears to care about actual governing. They’re building their brand first, then following fame and the money. This has transformed the GOP from a party that once had ideas and credibility into a lame variation on the “Real Housewives” reality TV franchise. Forget the red hats. The real mantra of this new GOP isn’t “America First” — it’s “Me First.” Like the TV “Housewives,” these new Republicans seek attention, fame and fortune, ignoring credibility.  Their success is sometimes short-lived, and often ends … [Read more...] about ‘Real Housewives of the GOP’ — Wannabe reality show narcissists commandeer the party
