Ashish Jha, the dean of the Brown University School of Public Health, on Sunday advised the Biden administration to get its agencies on the "same page" when it came to COVID-19 messaging, saying a consistent message would be "enormously helpful." The Houston Marathon and Half-Marathon Sunday belonged to two 30-something moms, who set American records in the event. Keira D'Amato shaved 24 seconds from Deena Kastor's nearly 16-year-old American record in winning the marathon and Sara Hall shattered Molly Huddle's four-year-old American record in finishing second in the half-marathon. "Part of me just can't believe this is happening," D'Amato told Houston's ABC affiliate after hugging her children, Tommy and Quin. "The other part is, like, 'This is happening because you worked your tail off, Keira.' Dreams come true, you know?" Seven-year-old Tommy had cheered his mom with a sign that read, "Your #1 in my heart," and told the ABC affiliate, "It's kind of like Mom's famous and it's cool to have a famous mother or father." Quin held a sign that read, "GO MOMMY GO, GO MOMMY GO, GO MOMMY GO." D'Amato finished in 2 hours, 19:12 seconds, lowering Kastor's 2:19:36 from her victory in the April 2006 London Marathon. D'Amato … [Read more...] about Keira D’Amato breaks American women’s record at Houston Marathon
2 With the omicron coronavirus variant spreading at a rate that world health officials are calling unprecedented , a growing chorus of experts are saying that boosters are a must — and that people should get them as soon as possible. But does the type of vaccine you get for your booster matter to how protected you’ll be against omicron? Early data indicate that omicron is likely two to three times as contagious as the delta variant, and being fully vaccinated with two doses of the Pfizer or Moderna mRNA vaccines or a single dose of Johnson & Johnson is no longer enough protection, Contra Costa County Public Health Officer Dr. Chris Farnitano noted Tuesday. “You need to be boostered to have strong protection against omicron,” Farnitano said. “If you thought you were safe with just two doses, that is no longer enough. Get your booster.” Dr. Anthony Fauci echoed that message on Tuesday, saying that omicron will “for sure” become the dominant variant … [Read more...] about Moderna booster vs. Pfizer: Does brand of vaccine matter for how well protected you’ll be against omicron?
2 California still has only 39 known omicron infections, but that could change quickly — and what it portends is very much in question . Amid concerns about the omicron variant and rising case rates, a statewide mask mandate — with some exceptions — goes back into effect today for public spaces, regardless of your vaccination status. Here’s what’s changing . San Francisco offices and gyms where everyone is fully vaccinated will not need to return to masking after California on Tuesday granted last-minute exemptions from its face mask rule. Latest updates: Apple delays return-to-office plans indefinitely: Citing ongoing pandemic concerns, including “rising cases in many parts of the world and the emergence of a new strain of the virus,” Apple announced on Wednesday that it is delaying the return of employees to the office indefinitely, according to a memo sent by chief executive Tim Cook and obtained by Bloomberg News . Who, precisely, is Cobra Kai for? If it’s adults who grew up with, and continue to adore, The Karate Kid films, it’s difficult to understand why they would want to endure a ceaseless barrage of tween drama, pitifully choreographed martial-arts combat , and lame humor barely fit for a TGIF sitcom. And if it’s young kids who want some cheesy Disney Channel-grade action, it’s impossible to fathom why they would care about the proceedings’ infatuation with all things ’80s. The show’s melding of the juvenile and the nostalgic appears to be an attempt to target two separate audiences, yet its childish corniness is so eye-rollingly rampant that it primarily comes across as a series designed for Steve Carell’s character in The 40-Year-Old Virgin . While Karate Kid fandom is Cobra Kai ’s stock and trade, there are almost no fond feelings for the film franchise’s third installment, which bombed with critics and audiences alike in 1989, and whose reputation rightfully hasn’t been … [Read more...] about ‘Cobra Kai’ Season 4 Is as Subtle as a Roundhouse Kick to the Face
