Arts & Entertainment A Hard-Hitting Band's Revelations of Recovery Jennifer Perez , Community Contributor Posted Reply "Everything in my music is high, loud, and abrupt – because I have something to say," says Greyson Grimes, vocalist and songwriter of Happy To Be Here. Alongside his co-conspirator and collaborator James Hamilton, Greyson fronts the powerhouse four-piece Los Angeles-based band whose courageous message of hope, healing, and rebirth is portrayed in a riveting new track titled "Me Now." Unleashing a voice tinged with melancholy, Grimes is a singularly expressive singer. He says that the story of "Me Now" --- co-written with Hamilton -- reflects on an inner conversation about ghosting a girl with whom he had a long distance relationship. The Hidden Fees Making Your Bananas, And Everything Else, Cost More
2 Business The story you're about to read is bananas, and it's also about bananas. Pro Publica , News Partner Posted Replies By Michael Grabell, ProPublica June 17, 2022 Last fall, a company called One Banana loaded 600,000 pounds of the fruit from its plantations in Guatemala and Ecuador onto ships bound for the Port of Long Beach in California. Once they arrived, the bananas, packed in refrigerated containers, were offloaded by cranes for trucking to a nearby warehouse, where the fruit would be sent to supermarkets nationwide. Review: John Adams unleashes a demonic powerhouse with S.F. Symphony
Berkeley composer John Adams’ recent piano concerto “Must the Devil Have All the Good Tunes?” gets under way in a fearless barrage and then never stops. It’s a nearly 30-minute powder keg of pounding keyboard harmonies, deliciously off-kilter rhythms and flat-out insolence. It sprints with a swagger. Three years after its world premiere with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, “Must the Devil” entered the San Francisco Symphony’s repertoire on Thursday, June 23, in a powerhouse performance led by Music Director Esa-Pekka Salonen and featuring a stunning debut by the Icelandic pianist Víkingur Ólafsson. There were other wondrous offerings on the program in Davies Symphony Hall as well, by Sibelius and the late Steven Stucky. But it’s hard to focus on those, at least for the moment, because Adams’ extraordinary score demands attention. For starters, it’s rare to hear a piece of music crammed with so many notes. In the two outer movements, the solo piano part (originally written for the … [Read more...] about Review: John Adams unleashes a demonic powerhouse with S.F. Symphony
