NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – The ACT has never changed in its 60-year history, but it will soon be switching things up for college hopefuls – giving them more chances to build their scores. Not everyone is pleased about the timing of this historic adjustment. “Students should be able to redo it if they think they did a bad job,” Fort Lee High School freshman Alexander Lopez said. People say it’s a dangerous game that’s using high schoolers as pawns. “When I first received these emails it’s like ‘oh wow’ I was like colleges actually care for me,” Alexander Rodriguez said. Rodriguez is a senior in high school and each day he gets about 30 emails from different colleges encouraging him to apply. “Sometimes it’s these elaborate fancy expensive packages to my door… You know you get this idea they’re actually reaching out they received my information they want me as their student.” When the Brooklyn student registered online for the SAT’s last year, he filled out the whole form. The university makes standardized testing optional for undergraduate admission. LA VERNE, Calif. (PRWEB) November 13, 2019 The University of La Verne announced today it will no longer require domestic first-time freshmen applicants to submit test scores from the SAT or ACT to qualify for admission to the university. The new admission policy removes artificial barriers that might otherwise prevent qualified students from furthering their educational goals. The change is in effect for first-time freshmen applying to start in the spring 2020 semester and beyond. University of La Verne joins more than 1,000 accredited four-year colleges across the country that are now test-optional, according to the National Center for Fair and Open Testing. “We are removing standardized tests as an obstacle to admission and freeing students to imagine college opportunities beyond what they might have previously considered possible,” University of La Verne President Devorah Lieberman said. Before we learned that Elizabeth Warren most likely had a native ancestor somewhere between six and ten generations ago, we knew that she did not belong to a tribal nation, and that her connection to Native American identity was based largely on family lore. We now know that lore has some evidentiary basis. But the criticism of Warren’s claims around her identity has never been about the purity of her bloodline, but about the facts of her experience as a person in the world.
