By: KDKA-TV News Staff WARRENDALE, Pa. (KDKA) — Retail stores have really taken a hit during the coronavirus pandemic. But one clothing store focused on young people – rue21 – headquartered in Warrendale says it has weathered the storm and will be opening 15 new locations across the country. Appearing on the Sunday Business Page with Jon Delano, the company’s new CEO, Bill Brand, says rue21 survived by cutting back inventory and advertising – and then prepared to reopen by adding more sizes for customers. rue21 says even though 70% of American women are size 14 or higher, only 20% of the merchandise at most clothing stores is in those higher sizes. Brand says rue21’s decision to add more plus sizes is paying off. “Our brand size stands for style,” Brand said. “It’s about value, and it’s about inclusivity. That inclusivity is also about body positivity, and when we serve 15 to 25 year olds there are many different shapes and sizes. Our job isn’t to judge. China-ASEAN Naval Exercise Hopes to Build Rapport Among Rivals
TAIPEI, TAIWAN - China-Southeast Asian maritime exercises proposed for next year will ease a stalemated dispute over the South China Sea by letting adversaries meet one another’s front-line personnel and work on common issues, experts in the region say. Claims by Brunei, Malaysia, Vietnam and the Philippines overlap that of China, which calls nearly the whole sea its own. Joint exercises would break down suspicion by letting naval personnel meet one another, … [Read more...] about China-ASEAN Naval Exercise Hopes to Build Rapport Among Rivals
Obstacles at Bay, Beijing Steps up Control Over Disputed South China Sea
TAIPEI - Beijing has reached a new peak in its bid to control the widely disputed South China Sea after pacifying rivals, keeping Washington away and building out artificial islands that are ready for military hardware. China will be able to keep three fighter-jet regiments on the same number of islets that it has constructed in the sea, according to a June 6 Pentagon report. China’s estimated 3,200 acres (1,294 hectares) of reclaimed land in the 3.5 million-square-kilometer sea will be used largely for military installations, a think tank forecast in March. Joint military exercises with Russia In another sign of tighter maritime control, Beijing’s official Xinhua News Agency said Sunday that a Chinese destroyer, frigate, supply ship and helicopter had joined Russian vessels for phase one of “complex” and “lengthy” joint military exercises that are starting in the South China Sea. Russia has the world’s second most powerful armed forces and China the third. “I think there is … [Read more...] about Obstacles at Bay, Beijing Steps up Control Over Disputed South China Sea
