A federal judge said Tuesday he will block the Trump administration’s policy that creates a clear line between abortion and family planning. Judge Michael J. McShane, of U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon, called the policy a “ham-fisted approach to public health policy, one that emphasizes a political issue over Title X’s stated goal of reducing unintended pregnancies,” reported Courthouse News Service. The new rule would block about $60 million in family planning funding to Planned Parenthood because it provides and refers for abortions. Oregon, 19 other states, and the District of Columbia sued the Trump administration in March over the new rule that governs Title X, the federal grant program that provides funding for family planning services. The rule reinstates President Ronald Reagan’s “Protect Life Rule,” which bars the “co-location” of federally funded family planning clinics and abortion clinics. An appointee of former President Barack Obama, … [Read more...] about Judge to Block Trump Admin Policy Barring Use of Family Planning Funds for Abortion Providers

Giant container ship that blocked Suez Canal finally free
SUEZ, Egypt — Salvage teams on Monday freed a colossal container ship stuck for nearly a week in the Suez Canal, ending a crisis that had clogged one of the world’s most vital waterways and halted billions of dollars a day in maritime commerce. Helped by high tide, a flotilla of tugboats wrenched the bulbous bow of the skyscraper-sized Ever Given from the canal’s sandy bank, where it had been firmly lodged since March 23. The tugs blared their horns blared in jubilation as they guided the Ever Given through the water after days of futility that had captivated the world, drawing scrutiny and social media mockery. The giant vessel headed toward the Great Bitter Lake, a wide stretch of water halfway between the north and south ends of the canal, where it will be inspected, said Evergreen Marine Corp., a major Taiwan-based shipping company that operates the ship. “We pulled it off!” said Peter Berdowski, CEO of Boskalis, the salvage firm hired to extract the Ever Given, in a … [Read more...] about Giant container ship that blocked Suez Canal finally free
Torching of nuke sub costs $400 million; Navy’s budget struggles for air
Story highlights Casey James Fury is serving 17 years for setting fire to the USS Miami The fire caused $400 million damage to the nuclear submarine Because of sequestration, the Navy says, it can't afford the repairs Rear Admiral: Scope of required work is "four times greater" than any previous repairs Casey James Fury simply didn't want to be at work, and in the process cost the Navy nearly a half-billion dollars and one attack submarine. Fury admitted to setting fire to the USS Miami, a nuclear sub, in May 2012 while it was in dry dock. He was sentenced to 17 years in federal prison in March and ordered to pay $400 million in restitution -- roughly the cost of the damage. The Navy won't see anything close to that amount from Fury, of course, but neither will it from Uncle Sam. On Tuesday, the Navy announced that despite the demand for attack submarines being "as strong as ever," the Miami is being inactivated. The reason: Under sequestration, the federal … [Read more...] about Torching of nuke sub costs $400 million; Navy’s budget struggles for air
David Limbaugh: Goodbye, Rush, my big brother. Thank you for being you
close Video Rush Limbaugh was an ‘incredibly great human being': longtime show producer Longtime producer for ‘The Rush Limbaugh Show’ James Golden, also known as Bo Snerdley, offers reflections on ‘Fox & Friends Weekend.’ Losing my brother Rush Limbaugh has been tough. Until a few very long weeks ago, he was always in my life. Like other siblings growing up in the same home, we shared experiences that were exclusive to us. Our parents instilled in us -- and we thoroughly absorbed -- their Christian values : their love of God; their unconditional love for each other and for us; their belief in moral absolutes, of truth, of right and wrong; the paramount importance of family; the critical necessity of personal character and integrity; the value of human life; and the uncompromising duty to treat others with respect and compassion. No one perfectly succeeds in living out these godly values , but our parents equipped us, lovingly … [Read more...] about David Limbaugh: Goodbye, Rush, my big brother. Thank you for being you
