NEW YORK — Before a late night rehearsal in December, Terrence Floyd couldn’t remember the last time he squatted on a drum throne, sticks in hand and ready to perform. Surely, he said, it had not happened since his brother, George Floyd, died at the hands of police in Minneapolis last May, sparking a global reckoning over systemic racism and police brutality. Now, Terrence is lending a talent he honed as a youngster in a church band to help produce and promote a forthcoming album of protest anthems inspired by the Black Lives Matter demonstrations prompted in part by his brother’s death. “I want to pay my respects to my brother any way I can, whether it’s a march, whether it’s just talking to somebody about him, or whether it’s doing what I do and playing the drums,” Terrence told The Associated Press. “His heartbeat is not beating no more,” he said, “but I can beat for him.” The untitled project, set for release one year after George Floyd’s death, follows a long history … [Read more...] about George Floyd kin joins protest anthem album project

Golden Globe Award co-hosts Tina Fey, Amy Poehler mum on politics, ‘Borat,’ ‘Nomadland’ win big

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler returned as co-hosts of this year's Golden Globe Awards , one of the biggest nights for TV and film , and they wasted no time mocking the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, who puts on the show. In the week leading up to 78th annual awards show came the revelation that there are no Black voting members in the group, something that only reinforced criticism that the press association — which notoriously controversial host Ricky Gervais last year called "very, very racist" in his opening monologue — is in need of overhauling. Trump calls for GOP unity in CPAC speech, repeats lies about election loss
ORLANDO, Fla. — Taking the stage for the first time since leaving office, former President Donald Trump called for GOP unity, even as he exacerbated intraparty divisions by attacking fellow Republicans and promoting lies about the election in a speech that made clear he intends to remain a dominant political force. Speaking Sunday at the Conservative Political Action Conference, where he was hailed as a returning hero, Trump blasted his successor, President Joe Biden, and tried to lay out a vision for the future of the GOP that revolves firmly around him, despite his loss in November. “Do you miss me yet?” Trump said after taking the stage to his old rally soundtrack and cheers from the supportive crowd. Trump, in his speech, tried to downplay the civil war gripping the party over the extent to which Republicans should embrace him, even as he unfurled an enemies list, calling out by name the 10 House Republicans and seven GOP senators who voted to impeach or convict him for … [Read more...] about Trump calls for GOP unity in CPAC speech, repeats lies about election loss
Ask Amy: Handsy hubby should revise technique
Dear Amy: My husband and I have been married for almost eight years. I’m 44 and he is 38. We have three kids, ages 5, 3, and one. We’ve always had an amazing sex life and a great relationship in every way. We also have the usual stress that comes along with raising kids (paying bills, running a household, etc.). We’ve always taken comfort in each other. My issue is that I’m tired of the sleaze and vulgarity that has always been a part of his way of trying to get me “in the mood” when he wants to have sex. I’ve never once turned him away when he wanted it, and I believe our sex drives are equal. I’m not sure if it’s because I’m getting older or because of the constant neediness of my children, but when he starts with the constant sexual innuendos, getting handsy, grabbing my body and breasts – it makes me feel disgusted. I feel like a piece of meat. When we were first together and up until a few months ago, it didn’t bother me. What’s wrong with me?! By the time … [Read more...] about Ask Amy: Handsy hubby should revise technique
