(CNN) Despite rising mortgage rates that dampened sales, home prices continued to climb higher in the second quarter, with many more cities seeing double-digit price gains than in the first part of the year. The median single-family existing home price in the second quarter was $413,500 -- the first time this quarterly price has ever risen above $400,000, according to the latest quarterly report from the National Association of Realtors. Home prices for the quarter were up 14.2% from a year ago, slightly slower than the 15.4% year-over-year price increase experienced in the first quarter. A majority, 80%, of US metro areas saw double-digit home price increases last quarter, or 148 out of 185. That's up from 70% of cities in the first quarter. "Home prices have increased at a pace that far exceeds wage gains, especially for low- and middle-income workers," said Lawrence Yun, NAR's chief economist. The New ‘A League of Their Own’ Is the Rare Home-Run Reboot
It’s time to admit it: Prestige television is largely mediocre . It seems good while you’re watching it, but it’s smoke and mirrors—big-name streamers pour millions into new shows, causing style to be mistaken for substance. When you look back months later at a show you thought you enjoyed, can you still name more than three things you loved? Can you ascertain one reason you kept watching, other than, “Eh, I guess since I started it I should see what happens”? A League of Their Own is, remarkably, the antithesis of this “golden age” of televised deception. Remakes aren’t supposed to be good anymore. Ask the 47,000 think pieces about it that have been written in the last 10 years. Admittedly, Hollywood is devoid of new ideas, and would rather guarantee a return on their investments by frankensteining an old project with nothing new to say. But this new series is so surprisingly, refreshingly good. Amazon Prime’s serialized reboot of the beloved 1992 film about the … [Read more...] about The New ‘A League of Their Own’ Is the Rare Home-Run Reboot

FBI Raid Took Place Days After Historians Warned Joe Biden of Another Civil War
The FBI raid on former President Donald Trump took place just days after historians met with President Joe Biden last week, reportedly warning him of a looming civil war. On August 4, several historians met with Biden at the White House warning him that America was facing divisions similar to that of the years before the Civil War before the 1860 election, according to The Washington Post. The group of historians included historian Jon Meacham, journalist Anne Applebaum, Princeton professor Sean Wilentz, University of Virginia historian Allida Black and presidential historian Michael Beschloss, according to the reports. 2 Real Estate The city also topped the list in the category of diversity. Lisa Marie Farver , Patch Staff Posted Replies AURORA, IL -- A city in Chicago's suburbs was recently ranked number one on a roundup of the best places in the country to "live the American dream." ‘I Was So Embarrassed’: Crystal Kung Minkoff Slams ‘Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’ Eating Disorder Jokes
When does a cliffhanger cross the line? It’s a question some viewers of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills want to know. Last week’s episode ended with “to be continued,” Bravo’s oft-used dramatic signal to the audience that a cliffhanger of drama would continue. There are numerous times this has been used successfully to engage the audience in heightened drama—on The Real Housewives of New York City alone it was shown during a meltdown in the Berkshires, the nearly-capsized Boat Ride from Hell in Cartagena, and when Luann de Lesseps discovered it was, in fact, about Tom —but the recent dramatic embellishment on RHOBH landed differently, because of the topic on hand. Beverly Hills Housewife Crystal Kung Minkoff had opened up on the show about her struggles with bulimia and body dysmorphia. And over the last two episodes, Minkoff was approached with questions and comments from her cast that could be deemed inappropriate to direct to someone with an eating disorder. … [Read more...] about ‘I Was So Embarrassed’: Crystal Kung Minkoff Slams ‘Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’ Eating Disorder Jokes
Big climate bill: Major new spending to spur green energy
By SETH BORENSTEIN, MATTHEW DALY and MICHAEL PHILLIS WASHINGTON (AP) — After decades of inaction in the face of escalating natural disasters and sustained global warming, Congress hopes to make clean energy so cheap in all aspects of life that it’s nearly irresistible. The House is poised to pass a transformative bill Friday that would provide the most spending to fight climate change by any one nation ever in a single push. Friday’s anticipated action comes 34 years after a top scientist grabbed headlines warning Congress about the dangers of global warming. In the decades since, there have been 308 weather disasters that have each cost the nation at least $1 billion, the record for the hottest year has been broken 10 times and wildfires have burned an area larger than Texas. The crux of the long-delayed bill, singularly pushed by Democrats in a closely divided Congress, is to use incentives to spur investors to accelerate the expansion of clean energy such as wind and solar … [Read more...] about Big climate bill: Major new spending to spur green energy
