NY attorney general isn’t satisfied with Trump’s bid to stay out of contempt after deposing longtime assistant
(CNN) The New York attorney general's office says it is not satisfied that former President Donald Trump has met the conditions to lift his civil contempt and is asking for additional sworn statements from several units within the Trump Organization over its document retention policy. The attorney general's office requested the new information after taking a deposition of Trump's longtime assistant Rhona Graff, who resigned from the real estate company in April 2021. Graff said the company didn't have a document retention policy and when documents were returned to other divisions -- such as hotels, golf, accounting or the legal department -- it was up to those individual units to decide whether to keep or destroy the records. "The accounting department had things relevant to [Mr. Trump] there, the hotel department may have had records relevant to him there, the golf division may have had records relevant to him, the legal department. I mean, they retained their own records … [Read more...] about NY attorney general isn’t satisfied with Trump’s bid to stay out of contempt after deposing longtime assistant
Sheriff adds details to Dijon Kizzee shooting; says deputies stopped him for riding on wrong side of street
Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials said Dijon Kizzee was riding his bike on the wrong side of the street when he was stopped by two South L.A. deputies in an incident that ended with the pair firing 19 shots at him . At a news briefing, sheriff’s officials offered yet another version of events of what led up to the fatal shooting on Aug. 31 that has generated national attention and triggered days of protests . Capt. Kent Wegener said Kizzee made a U-turn in front of deputies, dropped his bike on the sidewalk and ran. As one deputy caught up to Kizzee, Wegener said, Kizzee lifted his arms, clothes in each hand, struck a deputy in the face, and his pistol dropped to the ground. “He bends over, reaches, picks up the gun and is shot as he stands with the gun in hand,” Wegener said. “You will see that the deputy struggling with Kizzee does not arm himself until Kizzee bends down to pick up the gun he dropped.” Advertisement Much of the altercation is caught on … [Read more...] about Sheriff adds details to Dijon Kizzee shooting; says deputies stopped him for riding on wrong side of street
Kathy Hochul Seeks ‘Federal Solution’ to Illegal Immigration Problem in NY
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) is apparently hoping for a federal solution to the illegal immigration problem in New York, despite the state’s Democrat officials touting the “sanctuary” status of their state as Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) busses illegal immigrants to New York City. Hochul has wholly ignored the issues caused by her state’s immigration policies, including the “Green Light law,” which allows illegal immigrants to obtain driver’s licenses. Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-NY), a GOP gubernatorial candidate, is among those who have called on New York to take action and cease “incentivizing” illegal entry. “I’m not here to pass blame on a Democrat or Republican policy,” Hochul said . “This cries out for a federal response.” “I’m not sure they are coming into Texas because of what we’re doing here in New York,” the Democrat told reporters. “This cries out for a federal solution. Democrat, Republican we have to get this together.” The Democrat’s remarks coincide with the Texas … [Read more...] about Kathy Hochul Seeks ‘Federal Solution’ to Illegal Immigration Problem in NY

Dems near congressional passage of climate, health package
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 9 WASHINGTON (AP) — Democrats pushed their flagship climate change and health care bill toward House passage Friday, placing President Joe Biden on the brink of a back-from-the-dead triumph on his leading domestic goals that the party hopes will energize voters going into November’s elections. The narrowly divided House was poised to approve the legislation, which is but a shadow of the larger, more ambitious plan to supercharge environment and social programs that Biden and his party envisioned early last year. Even so, Democrats were thirsty to declare victory on top-tier goals such as providing Congress’ largest ever investment in curbing carbon emissions, reining in pharmaceutical costs and taxing large companies and show they can wring accomplishments out of a frequently gridlocked Washington that disillusions many voters. Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, … [Read more...] about Dems near congressional passage of climate, health package
