While the Baton Rouge area saw home sales rise 3.5% last month, inventory is growing and the pace of slowing, according to a new monthly report from the Greater Baton Rouge Association of Realtors. The 4,198 homes on the market last month represented a 16.8% increase over the same month last year, while the average days on market increased 26% from last June to 63 days. Meanwhile, the month’s supply of inventory—or the amount of time it would take to sell all of the homes on the market at the current sales pace—increased 21.1% to 4.6 months, up from 3.8 last July. From court records, it appears it was pretty easy. The IRS sent a $3.5 million income tax refund check to an estate in the man's name after getting a sketchy tax return that seemed to merit the large refund. The civil forfeiture action against 4512 S. Drexel Blvd. blames Francis Burns for the scam, though he has not been charged with a crime in Wisconsin. According to IRS special agent Park Jones' affidavit in support of the civil forfeiture, the house was titled in 2017 to World Burns Inc., a Wisconsin corporation that lists Francis Burns as its registered agent. Darcy Costello Louisville Courier Journal Published 12:03 p.m. UTC Aug 21, 2018 A fire ripped through a $3.5 million mansion in Prospect, nearly destroying the roof and upper floor, after a thunderstorm swept through the area Monday afternoon. Crews worked into the evening battling the flames and monitoring hot spots at the expansive 16,500-square-foot home, where they expected to stay through the night. Investigators were still working to determine the cause Monday evening, but the National Weather Service confirmed two lightning strikes within a 2-mile radius of the home. North Oldham Fire Department responded to a call from an alarm company just before 1 p.m., Assistant Chief Scott Hogan said. When crews arrived at the Oldham County home, in the 14000 block of Reserve Cove Drive off Rose Island Road, they saw flames through first-floor windows at the right corner of the property as well as black smoke coursing through the home.
