Rick Romell Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Published 1:01 AM EDT Oct 30, 2018 Target Corp. will close its store near South 27th Street and West Layton Avenue early next year. The store, 4777 S. 27th St., Greenfield, will remain open through Feb. 2. The roughly 130 part- and full-time employees there will be offered jobs at other Target stores in the area, spokeswoman Susan Bell said. Those who don’t take the jobs will receive severance based on their tenure with the company, she said. The company’s decision to close the store follows “several years of decreasing profitability” at the location, Bell said. Target typically closes a small number of underperforming stores every year — 12 last year, and 13 the year before, she said. The Minneapolis-based retailer has 1,839 stores, including 14 in metropolitan Milwaukee. The driver, a 31-year-old man, lost control of his vehicle and struck a tree at 6:18 p.m.. A male passenger, 79, died at the scene, police said in a news release. The driver is cooperating with the investigation, police said. The Auburn Board of Trustees approved construction of a five-story, 600-space parking deck on S. College St. just South of the Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center. They said this new parking structure will improve the parking situation in the northeast portion of the campus. The parking deck will help with parking for the future Tony and Libba Rane Culinary Science Center, hotel guests, faculty and staff parking during the day, especially for classes at the Mell classroom building and parking at night for students studying in the library. They hope to start construction early this Summer and be completed in March 2019.
