On a sweltering 90-degree day, Jennifer Abma thought she was doing the right thing by keeping her daughters inside. The mom from Edmonton, Canada, was trying to prevent 1-year-old Ariel and 2-year-old Anastasia from getting heatstroke — but somehow her plan backfired. About an hour after Anastasia went down for her afternoon nap on July 14, Abma checked in on the little girl and found her red hot and drenched in sweat. She tried to wake her up, but the 2-year-old wouldn't open her eyes. "It felt like she had just been lit on fire," Abma described to CBS News. "It was like walking into a sauna. I never realized a bedroom could do that to a kid." This is the first summer the family has spent in the house and they don't have air conditioning, but with windows wide open and curtains in every room, Abma didn't think anything of it. "When the rest of your house is cool you expect the whole house should be like that," she said. But apparently, with her daughter's room in the … [Read more...] about CBS News Logo Mom warns of indoor heatstroke after 2-year-old was “minutes from death”

A father confessed to murdering his 2-year-old son, after the latter’s body was discovered inside a garbage bag by the police in an apartment in Little Village, Chicago. The confession came shortly after Rolando Ortiz, 37, was arrested late Wednesday. He said he stabbed his son, Mateo Aguayo, to death because he was "very frustrated that he could not sleep," and his son was "running around and keeping him awake," ABC News reported. Ortiz grabbed his son and held him down as he slashed his neck with a kitchen knife, the police said. Aguayo suffered severe trauma from laceration and fatal stab wounds to his neck to the point of “near decapitation." Chicago Police Detective Cmdr. Brendan Deenihan said in a press conference on Thursday that after he realized what he did, Ortiz tried to kill himself by cutting his wrist. However, he changed his mind and proceeded to place the toddler’s corpse in a garbage bag. Next, Ortiz tried to call up his wife and … [Read more...] about Father Nearly Decapitates 2-Year-Old Son Who Kept Him From Sleeping

Rob Delaney just confirmed that his 2-year-old son has died of brain cancer. On his Facebook page, the “Catastrophe” star penned a lengthy post about his son, Henry, and said that he was diagnosed with the illness in 2016, shortly after his first birthday. Delaney said that Henry passed away in January, but he only shared the news to his fans weeks later. Delaney revealed that his wife and two older kids are also devastated over Henry’s death. “Henry was a joy. He was smart, funny, and mischievous and we had so many wonderful adventures together, particularly after he’d moved home following 15 months living in hospitals,” he wrote. Henry’s illness eventually made it difficult for him to move or talk so he had to learn his own version of sign language. “His drive to live and love and to connect was profound,” the funnyman said. In his post, Delaney also thanked the nurses, doctors and hospital staff for helping Henry throughout his … [Read more...] about ‘Catastrophe’ Star Rob Delaney’s 2-Year-Old Son Dies Of Brain Cancer
Andrew Sucher, 25, felt he was being harassed by the child welfare agency, his mother told 911 operators. The investigator with Illinois’ Department of Children and Family Services had gone to Sucher’s parents’ home in Milledgeville, Illinois (about 125 miles west of Chicago) to take a 2-year-old relative of Sucher into protective custody after Sucher was charged with beating a 6-year-old boy, authorities said, The Chicago Tribune reported. But when Pamela Sue Knight, 59, got to the home, Sucher allegedly knocked her to the ground and kicked her in the head, The Chicago Tribune said. That’s when Sucher’s mother made the frantic 911 call, WQAD 8 reported. “...He feels like he’s being harassed by them and so he attacked her,” Angela Sucher had said on the call. “My son attacked a DCFS worker. She’s laying on the cement,” she said, the news station reported.
