The university’s medical school received a two million dollar grant to research a new drug that would help prevent preterm childbirth by delaying a woman’s pregnancy without harsh side effects. The grant was from the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development. Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development was founded in 1962 to investigate human development, with a focus in disabilities and other events that occur during pregnancy. Their goal is to have every person born healthy and wanted. The only winning ticket for Tuesday night’s $522 million MegaMillions jackpot was sold in California, but two tickets sold in New Jersey are worth $1 million each. The winning numbers were: 1, 2, 4, 19 and 29, with the Mega Ball 20. The single winning ticket was sold at a liquor store in San Jose, Calif. The annuity prize is an estimated $522 million to be paid out over 30 years. The lump sum cash prize is $308.1 million. The jackpot is the fifth largest in the game’s history. Two tickets sold in New Jersey had the first five numbers but not the Mega Ball. Where they were sold are expected to be announced later Wednesday. HUD Awards Nebraska 3.2 Million to battle youth homelessness (NTV News) KEARNEY, Neb. — The fight to end youth homelessness in Nebraska received some help today after the Department of Housing and Urban Development grants the state millions in funds. Friday Jason Mohr, regional director for the Department of Housing and Urban awarded the state of Nebraska with $3.2 million dollars in funds to combat issues of homelessness with Nebraska's youth and young adults. The funds will be used to help support housing interventions that prevents homelessness such as rapid rehousing, permanent supportive housing and transitional housing. These programs will be focused on youth under the age of 22 that are facing housing difficulties. Officials said limited housing and job opportunities contribute to youth homelessness. Brian Smart, 41, agreed to an Orange County Superior Court offer requiring him to plead guilty to 15 felonies, including grand theft, theft from an elder and money laundering. Along with the prison sentence, Smart was ordered to pay about $1.8 million in restitution and $1.8 million in fines, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office. Prosecutors allege that while Smart was working for an Anaheim-based insurance firm in 2005 and 2006, he persuaded several elderly individuals to liquidate their annuities and give him the money to put in what he claimed would be safe, high-yield investments. PARIS — A man who regularly plays the lottery with the same numbers at the same place in eastern France has beaten huge odds, winning the My Million lottery twice in 18 months. Le Parisien newspaper said mathematicians it queried calculated the double win at 1 chance in 16 trillion. Radio France Bleu on Thursday quoted state lottery La Francaise des Jeux as saying the winner, who wants to remain anonymous, won 1 million euros ($1.18 million) on May 18 after winning 1 million euros in November 2016.
