In March, Qi Shi, the official journal of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), published Chinese leader Xi Jinping ’s article , in which he explains how to construct the Chinese socialist legal system. This is an important development. Compared with his predecessors, Xi’s ideas of law are more deceitful because they use familiar terms such as “rule of law,” “law-based” and “justice.” In practice, Xi increasingly uses law as a weapon to crack down on dissent to ensure regime security, while simultaneously employing it as a weapon in the CCP’s quest for world hegemony. China’s legal theory and practice are copied from the Soviet Union. Like the Soviets, the CCP’s dictators are never shy of saying that law is the party’s instrument to destroy enemies. The party’s absolute control over China’s judicial system is the principal component of Xi’s lawfare strategy. He reiterates that “if the party is above the law, or the law above the party, it is a political trap … [Read more...] about The growing threat of China’s lawfare

close Video Tucker Carlson: Unequal treatment under the law Tucker examines the disproportionate punishment given to those in the Capitol on Jan 6 and those participating in BLM protests Today is the three-month anniversary of January 6th . For those who aren’t good with dates or don’t have calendars, this is the day we pause to remember the White supremacist " QAnon insurrection" that came so very close to toppling our government and ending this democracy forever. You saw what happened. It was carried live on television, every gruesome moment. A mob of older people from unfashionable zip codes somehow made it all the way to Washington, D.C. , probably by bus. They wandered freely through the Capitol, like it was their building or something. They didn’t have guns, but a lot of them had extremely dangerous ideas. close Video Biden to create commission on Supreme Court reform President Biden will issue an executive order to create a bipartisan commission to study Supreme Court reform, including its membership and size; Peter Doocy reports from the White House. Many on the left had quietly hoped that Justice Stephen Breyer would retire in 2021, opening up a seat on the Supreme Court for President Biden to fill — but now some are waging a public campaign to pressure the liberal stalwart to step down. The calls come in the wake of a speech Breyer gave to Harvard Law School students and alumni earlier this week when he warned that court packing – a term for adding seats to the Supreme Court to change its political makeup – could harm the rule of law in the U.S. "Proposals have been recently made to increase the number of Supreme Court justices. I'm sure that others will discuss related political arguments," he said. "This lecture reflects my own effort to be … [Read more...] about Liberals ramp up calls for Supreme Court Justice Breyer to retire after he panned court packing in speech
On the streets of Rome, frustrations with pandemic curbs boiled over this week as desperate protesters, many of them restaurant owners and small-business owners, complained that restrictions and repeated lockdowns aimed at suppressing the transmission of the coronavirus are ruining them. "We can no longer go on like this," 51-year-old pizzeria owner Ermes Ferrari told reporters. "I just want to work." Outside the parliament in the Italian capital, protesters Tuesday called for an immediate end to Italy's grinding lockdown. At one point they clashed with riot police. The protesters chanted repeatedly, "Libertà, Libertà." Many of the protesters, who emphasized they are not COVID-19 deniers, are members of the burgeoning "I'm Opening" movement of bar and restaurant owners, who defy curbs, break rules and incur hefty fines for doing so. "I had to spend €10,000 to adapt the pizzeria so that it was in accord with virus safety precautions, then the government made us close down. It's … [Read more...] about Lockdown Protests Snowball as Europe’s Libertarians Fret About Freedom
