(CNN) Democratic candidates for president took part in their party's fifth debate on Wednesday night in Atlanta and CNN commentators weighed in. The opinions expressed in these commentaries are those of the authors Paul Begala: Buttigieg was the winner After spending all day watching Republican congressmen (and one Republican congresswoman) during the impeachment hearings mindlessly denying the Everest of evidence of Donald Trump's alleged criminality, the Democratic debate was like a wake-up call from the real world. Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders stayed true to form, pushing Medicare for All and a wealth tax. Kamala Harris was a sharp and incisive prosecutor, rhetorically eviscerating Hawaii congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard over her criticism of Barack Obama and other Democrats. It makes you long to see Harris carve up Donald Trump on a debate stage. Later, on foreign policy, she quipped, "Donald Trump got punked," and then cited chapter and verse on how our President has been … [Read more...] about Commentators: Who won the Democratic debate

(CNN)Ambassador Gordon Sondland caught the Republicans flat-footed at Wednesday's hearing of the House Intelligence committee with his lengthy opening statement, which some have interpreted as confirming the Democratic case that President Donald Trump himself ordered a quid pro quo scheme: a visit to the White House for Ukraine's new president -- and release of held-up aid to Ukraine, Democrats say -- in exchange for his country publicly launching investigations into both Burisma and a conspiracy theory alleging Ukrainian interference in the 2016 election. SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — E-cigarettes have been around for a few years, so why is there a sudden spike in related illnesses? Health investigators are looking into several possibilities including contaminants in the vaping liquids, the heating device itself, recycled e-cig cartridges that may be contaminated, and counterfeit devices teens buy off the street. The vaping industry, however, is pointing to THC vaping products. THC is the active ingredient in marijuana. While traditional e-cigs, like JUUL, vaporize a nicotine liquid, there are products that vaporize waxes and oils. The CDC says many of the people who were hospitalized also reported using those. The federal government could not say exactly how many of the 215 patients in 25 states reported vaping THC in addition to nicotine, but an Oregon man who died in July and a hospitalized Long Island teen both reportedly used cannabis vape pens, not nicotine. (CNN)President Donald Trump just killed off any hope for a peace process between Israeli and Palestinians -- and undermined US interests in the process. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced this week that the United States is reversing a 40-year-old policy-- one held under Republican and Democratic presidents alike -- that Israeli settlements in the West Bank violate international law. That longstanding view is one held by the international community as well, and the UN has repeatedly said that the settlements violate the Geneva Conventions. Jill Filipovic The settlements are civilian housing on Palestinian land that Israel occupied during the six-day war in 1967 -- territory over which Palestinians expect to assert full … [Read more...] about Trump and Pompeo threw away any hope for a two-state solution
