An upstate New York judge died after having a heart attack on the bench. Putman County Court Judge James Reitz, 57, was in his courtroom Friday morning when he was stricken. Court officers performed CPR and used a defibrillator to try to resuscitate him before he was taken to a hospital, the Associated Press reported. He died shortly after arriving at the hospital, said Lucian Chalfen, a spokesman for the state court system. Reitz lived in Mahopac and was a county judge since 2007. He was also an acting justice with the state Supreme Court, the Journal News reported. He previously worked as a lawyer in private practice. State Sen. Olindo “Dedo” Lucarelli Jr. JAY – Olindo “Dedo” Lucarelli Jr., 89, of Jay, passed away unexpectedly, Thursday, June 13, 2019, at his residence doing what he loved, working in the woods. Born April 20, 1930, to Olindo Lucarelli Sr. and Carmel (DeSanctis) Lucarelli. He was a 1948 graduate of Livermore Falls High School, where he was an athlete of every sport, every year. Following school he proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On April 13, 1952, he married his wife of 67 years, Janet Reed. He worked his entire working career for International Paper Company as a foreman at the Otis Mill and supervisor at the Androscoggin Mill in Jay, retiring in 1985. Dedo and Janet owned and operated Lucarelli’s Orchards for many years, as well as farming and haying. He also worked as a real estate agent. Gertraude “Kathy” LeClair LEWISTON – Gertraude “Kathy” Leclair, 71, resident of Lewiston passed away June 12, 2019 with her loving family by her side following a 13 year courageous battle with cancer. She was born March 28, 1948 in Boxberg, Germany, the second oldest of 11 children to Anni and William Haas. Kathy was educated in Germany to include a Duetch Technical Institute degree in design and as a seamstress in men’s clothing. On March 3, 1967 she married Robert R. Leclair in Boxberg and moved to Maine to start a new life. Kathy continued her education earning an associate’s degree in culinary arts at CMVTI. She loved gardening, cooking and baking, knitting, needlepoint, and, her favorite, quilting. She had a contagious personality which drew people in. Daryl “Butch” Simard RUMFORD – Daryl “Butch” Simard, 71, of Penobscot Street, joined his loved ones in Heaven on Friday June 7, 2019. He was born in Rumford on April 8, 1948, the youngest of 12 children of Joseph and Marie (Boucher) Simard. Butch was educated in Rumford schools and was a graduate of Rumford High School. He was also a graduate of MIT in Boston with an Associate’s Degree in Electronics. He was employed for over 40 years with Leo Dyer’s Electronics in Mexico. Butch was a well-respected Landlord in Rumford and was a member of the Rumford Mexico Landlord Association for 40 years. When Butch wasn’t attending to his apartments, he enjoyed taking cruises. He was a communicant of Parish of the Holy Savior. Butch was a member of the Lion’s Club, the March of Dimes and the Eagles.
