High risk of flooding for parts of north Alabama as rain continues
The threat for flooding continued to increase for parts of north Alabama on Thursday night.NOAA’s Weather Prediction Center placed a high and a moderate risk for excessive rain over parts of the region from 6 a.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Saturday.That means there’s a 50 percent chance of flash-flood level rainfall within 25 miles of a given point.Rain, sometimes heavy, continued over parts of Alabama on Thursday night, leading to more reports of flooding across the area. The region was littered Thursday night with flood warnings and reports of water over roads, especially in Morgan and Cullman counties.The National Weather Service in Huntsville has put a flash flood watch in place for all of north Alabama that will be in effect until 6 a.m. Saturday.That replaces the flood watch that had been in effect. Birmingham Business Alliance President Hilson to leave in March
The president and CEO of the Birmingham Business Alliance is stepping down from his post effective March 29 to take another economic development position in the state, the organization announced Thursday.Brian Hilson had been with the BBA since 2011. The organization suggested Hilson will be leaving the alliance in good hands after 4,500 jobs and $1 billion in capital investment was secured in Birmingham last year. “When I came here eight years ago from Huntsville my plan was very clear: to accept the challenge to put into practice the proven strategies that I knew would bring a new level of success to this great community,” Hilson said in a statement. “As I move on to my next challenge in economic development, I have a sense of satisfaction that the BBA has, in fact, helped Birmingham achieve many successful years in economic development. Ex-Senate Majority Leader Zeb Little arrested on theft charges, report says
Cullman County attorney and former state Senate Majority Leader Zeb Little was arrested Thursday on theft charges, according to a report.Little, 50, allegedly stole more than $2,500 in goods and was charged with three counts theft of property, Cullman Today reported. He was released on $15,000 bond, according to the website. Little could serve between two and 20 years in prison if convicted on each count. The Cullman County Sheriff’s Office could not immediately confirm the report; efforts to reach Little were unsuccessful.Little, a Democrat, served in the Senate from 1998-2010 and was majority leader from 2002-2010. on February 21, 2019 at 5:11 pm One student learned of an “armed aggressor” at Utah State University from his wife, who was at home with their four children in a state of panic. Although he was on campus, he hadn’t received the “Code Blue” emergency alert his wife received, and was unaware of the situation. Another student saw the Code Blue message light up on her phone as she was studying for a test. Understanding her personal safety was her first priority, she quit studying and sought safety. “I was so shaken from the experience that I did not do very well on the exam,” she said. Both students spoke during a town hall in the Taggart Student Center Sunburst Lounge on Thursday. Roughly 100 students and faculty were in attendance.
