It was okay but nothing really groundbreaking. The majority of the information in the book could’ve been found online.
It has some good ideas but nothing revolutionary. I would save my money if given the chance to consider buying again.

[…] Personal training options are exploding and yet its easy to get in-the-box thinking. The author provides another perspective about online training for either sole pursuit or additional revenue stream. Keeping the options open. I understand where other readers may have felt mislead by the title but that’s a perfect lesson to apply to personal training marketing. It’s all about perspective. It’s not meant to be misleading but sometimes can be. The blueprint concept provides a skeleton of items, tools, and skills you’ll need but doesn’t necessarily mean you should use exactly those.

I figured that Jon’s done enough good for the personal training world to warrant a review here.

True, if you’re looking for a long read, this isn’t it. But you should never have expected it to be in the first place. This is an ebook. A $5 ebook. The length that you may be looking for may not be there, but the information within is pretty solid.

I’ve done a ton of self-research on the subject, and I still found the ebook very useful. It basically gives you the bones of what you need to look into if you’re going to start up online training. Is it a step by step guide? No. But it will give you a road map. A road map telling you in which direction you need to trod, and where you are going to have to put in a little bit of good ol’ fashioned hard work.

So, if you’re looking into online training, buy the book. You’ll be glad you did.

I should say up front that I am a fan of Jonathan Goodman’s writing in general, and I look to his blog posts for advice and ideas frequently. So I approached this as a fan, and found just the kind of information I was looking for. This book is full of very practical, actionable advice for personal trainers who want to add online services to their offerings. Most of this can be implemented very inexpensively or for free. It seems like many of the ideas here could be adapted for use by people in many different customer-focused businesses. This is a quick and simple read without fluff or filler, but it still has some humor and sass to keep it interesting.

I actually was very surprised at the quality of content in this book. I am very skeptical of these sorts of books and what people write about. I’ve been in the industry for 27 years and I’ve seen a lot of junk.
Well done. Quality content with helpful, right to the point lessons. So far I have not seen any BS fillers.
    thanks for the info.

As usual, Jon Goodman hit the nail on the head. I only wish I could get some of his books in print, since I digitally made several bookmarks throughout the length of this book. I have always liked print better so I can highlight and have the pages in my hands.

Thanks for all the great info and tips, yet again. And keep up the great work on theptdc.com ! 🙂

Offers new perspectives and good principles.

Many typos and product promotion, making it difficult to establish credibility.

Is the author trying to give you your $10 worth, or is he simply setting you up for more investments?

Any sell leaving you with buyer’s remorse is a poor sale. Ironically, this is a very important lesson in personal training.

    Practice what you preach.

I randomly came across Jon’s book when I was searching for something else. I dumped that idea and spent the next hour devouring this book start to finish. His ideas were made so simple and gave me some action steps I could take straight away to build on my coaching business. I’m also revamping my website and he gave some cool ninja tricks that I thought were hilarious, can’t wait to see them working.
I’ve read all of Jon’s books, each one full of amazing content, this one was no different in that respect.
If you need some extra out of the box ideas, get this book into your brain right now!

I am very disappointed in this book for several simple reasons:

    – It took me 45 minutes to read, and that was while watching and playing with my infant son. This is not what I expect when I pay 10 bucks for a book.
    – 75% of the book is the same old generic and dated business advice you can find anywhere, and frankly I don’t see how it applies to online training.
    – VERY little is actually about online training.
    – In his products the author is always linking to products he makes money from– same with his websites. Enough. Some money, when disclosed is fine, but being greedy creates distrust, and rightfully so.
    – The tiny section regarding how to find clients is a joke. Oh, we can read your facebook e-book? Gee, thanks. Or we can network with friends and family? C’mon.
    – There is NO blueprint anywhere. I hate when people use the word blueprint, then provide no actionable advice.

The only reason I didn’t give this book 1 star is because I always feel bad when someone spends so much time working on something, but the truth is this book is probably 1 star.

Jon Goodman is a saint. He is very passionate about improving the state of the fitness industry by laying out detail by detail how to successfully start a personal training business online. This book not only gives you the layout but explains the sales procedure as well when dealing with a potential client. The program he recommends, Trainerize, is a pretty solid program that allows you to track your clients workouts and progress. Very detailed book that isn’t overly long and gets straight to the point. Thanks Jon!

Jon and his PTDC material is top notch and has given me more valuable information than I could ever ask for and this book is exactly what I needed!! I’m a Civil Engineer and last year I followed my passion and my dream to become a Certified Personal Trainer. I don’t have a lot of time in my schedule to train a lot clients personally so I’ve been brain storming for months about how to build an Online Personal Training business that I can eventually make solid enough to transition from Engineering to Fitness full time. Jon took all the guess work out for me and now I’ve got a blueprint breaking down everything needed to build a successful Online Personal Training business.
If you’re a Personal Trainer and you’re serious about dipping into the online market while building a large client base beyond your typical gym sessions, then I recommend you take $4.99 from your profits and purchase The Online Personal Trainer Blueprint.

I have just completed reading this book and I can say that it has definitely provided some much needed direction for me and my business. Online personal training is still pretty new, and since it is new there is not a lot of instructional material out there available for a personal trainer looking to learn that end of the business. Jon has filled that void with an easy to read, no nonsense book that will save many of us from making mistakes along the way. His suggestions are extremely helpful, and I am very thankful that he is doing what he does. I look forward to implementing this into my own training business!

I’ve read everything Jon has published to date; he is always accessible, insightful, and a fast read. This book extends that trend. If you are interested in training people online this book is for you. It’s low risk, high reward, and information dense. The text will familiarize you with Trainerize, explain how to set up tiered payment plans, but most importantly it will teach you how to manage your time wisely. What good is an online business if you spend all day working on it, rather than living your life to it’s full potential? I only wish this book had come out a few months ago as it would have spared me a lot of self imposed frustration and false starts.

This book was exactly what the author promised – a no nonsense blueprint to take one’s personal training business to the next level. I look forward to putting his advice into action. Gym-based personal training will always be around, but if you are a fitness professional who wants to reach a much wider audience with your message, this book is the place to start.

You really do need a system if you’re going to train people online, whether it’s writing programs or helping them with diet and nutrition. People tend to wing it, and things get disorganized, clients get lost, and lose motivation. On top of that, the trainer gets burned out, frantic, and demotivated.

Jon’s system is basic and simple, is a great way to manage your time with your clients. Simple tools and techniques are outlined, step by step. You don’t have to use these exact tools, as it’s more about process than anything.

    I like it.

I am a newer personal trainer. And breaking into the fitness industry can be an overwhelming task. I have spent countless hours trying to research ways to best build a fitness business online. I have been following Jonathan Goodman for some time on Facebook and decided to purchase the book in the hopes it would help me kickstart my business.

I read through the book over the course of two days, taking notes along the way. I plan to read it again. And again. It’s laid out in a way that’s easy to understand and he gives you the steps you need to take to build an online Personal Training Business. Honestly, prior to reading the book, I had been trying–and failing– at starting my Personal Training Business online. But, after reading the book, I was able to see where I had screwed up and see the steps I need to take to actually make it work.

I look forward to implementing the steps in the book and running a successful online personal training business.

I will recommend this book for passionate and educated personal trainers who want to upgrade their biz and go to another level. For me personally it makes a perfect match to Marie Forleo business course, and I’m going to apply it and make a new offering (starting with nutritional consultation). Jon is a great guy (see his last name?) and he knows what he’s talking about. Although there certainly are thing needed to be tweaked in my case since my target clientele are Russians for now, there are tons of useful information. It may even make you re-think your personal training, at least it made me doing this. Also important, the book teaches you business thinking.
Honestly, I’ll give it 5 stars.

As someone who studies and digests every single piece of information released by Mr. Goodman, I was not blown away by this E-book.

However, if I was to put myself in the shoes of someone who hasn’t followed and read every single piece of information (blog, social media, e-mail) he has put out in the past year – well, then I would be blown away, and profiting.

This book is an easy fluff-free read. It contains fool-proof instructions on exactly what to do to create an online training business. The negative reviews that knock this book for software promotion seem a bit out of place – the short section on the software, Trainerize, is part of the fool-proof instructions on how to get started quickly and efficiently.

Overall, this book is a necessary resource for any personal trainer looking to scale into online training. For 4.99 and about two hours of reading – the investment will pay itself 10x.

I’ve been training and instructing for almost 10 years now and it’s taken me THIS long to finally try and come up with a \\”system\\” for how I manage my business. Up until now, my motto has been \\”whatever it takes\\” and sometimes that takes answering endless emails, customizing everything, and rearranging my calendar until my eyes bleed. My life was slowly spinning out of control. This book doesn’t tell you exactly what to do, rather it gives you a foundation to start building your own system. I already had several of his practices in place but I was so unorganized about it that I was losing out on some opportunities that I should’ve had. I have also been using Trainerize for about two months and agree that it’s a great product. Yes, they are fairly new but the customer service and support has been fabulous and the product they have released is top-notch. Whether you choose to go with Trainerize or not, the book can help you streamline your system into whatever software you use (and help you to not miss any more opportunities!).
    Thanks Jon!

I liked the information presented in this book. I’ve seen some of it in other material made by Jon (the author) in the past, but it was a good read.

I read this entire book in 1 sitting which is great for the type of schedule I keep.

The book mainly highlights how Trainerize can help trainers with online personal training and seemed more like a plug for that company but its still valuable info.

    Definitely worth reading. J

It’s easy to train folks virtually. It’s just not easy to do it simply and make a good amount of money. Jon solves that problem in this book. Not only is it truly a blueprint that includes all the information and programs you’ll need, Jon also shows trainers how to value their time.

    This book is a gem!

I’ve been following Jon’s methods for quite some time and as a trainer getting in to online coaching, the methods he lays down literally are the most concrete (and to the point) bar none. I’ve known Jon for some time and even done some work with him in the past. The morning this book released he sent me an advanced copy and I figured I’d get to it later that day. A few hours later when I did open the book my mouth literally dropped.

He told me it was good but damn it’s freakin good. In the first few pages he laid out everything me and any trainer would need to create an online revenue stream via online training. This is literally a blueprint for creating a second revenue stream right down go how much to charge.I wish I had this book years ago when I first got into training.

    Well done Goodman, well done.
