It fails to keep a lamp lit with the provided CFL bulb. But when I replace that with a low power incandescent bulb it works fine.
Nice product, works as described. No issues, one thing to remember, this unit needs to be charge with ample watts. I have a generator that will not charge the unit, but charges fine with the house power.
When my ninety year old "Live at Home" mom (can’t sleep all night) was suddenly left in the dark during a storm (uses a walker too), she was extremely relieved when her table lamps came back on and stayed on for hours until her power was restored. More importantly, she was not seated at the time and was literally blind and at the mercy of nature (as in previous stormy nights). These backup power devices provided more than enough light (60 watts each) for her to find her way back to the couch from the nearby kitchen.
Much Better than a flash light, and priced right for what it does. You will not be in the dark with this backup.
Works well. Every home should have some type of back up light. This does the job nicely. Will buy another.
have two units in house i read the review about the light that did not last and i would say test the unit all you have to do is unplug it with the light on.i went through sandy and had to use the light for three days i put it on at night and off when i slept.it lasted for all of two nights and a part of third.i will get two more units since my wife has a thing about lights in the cats room and this is the safest way to have light for them.
I’ve had this product for some time now and it has been used on several occasions this past year due to many storms which created several power outages, usually of short duration, but some were over an hour and one was 7 hours. Each time the lamp and radio I have connected to this device went right on and stayed on during the interruption. At least I could read my papers and enjoy radio during each outage. Only house on my block with a light on and some people called to see why I had power. I plan on adding an additional unit or two for other rooms in the house. Thanks for a product that really works. Great service along with prompt delivery. The recipient was delighted! After the devastating wind storm in Southern California, there were power outages up to 10 days in some communities. This is a life-saver to at least get around the house, organize candles and other supplies. Great idea!
This is nothing but a battery for your lamp, and it works ONLY with the low-energy bulb that is included with the battery, and ONLY with a lamp that cannot be dimmed. I wanted to use my regular 40-watt bulb in a floor lamp that has 2 settings. NO GO. The only illumination I got using my own bulb was so so dim I couldn’t even read large print. This should have been made very clear in the description BEFORE buying – you MUST use their low-energy bulb – which defeats the whole purpose. The low-energy bulb does not allow for dimming even when the power has NOT been lost. NOT a desirable bulb at all. This battery is over-priced and lasted only 7 hours using the low-energy bulb – NOT the 10 hours promised.
We are gearing up for a cold winter here in the Pacific Nothwest, and that always means a power outage or two. This is a perfect solution to accompany our flameless candles and our flashlights when the power goes out. We installed this in the livingroom on a torch lamp and it lights the entire area. I wish the company would make one to power small appliances, like a coffee pot or hairdryer. Recommended highly for seniors…no more stubbed toes!
You must use a smaller watt bulb with this or else it will not work in a power outage. Upon charging it the first time, it worked, however, the second time, I couldn’t get it to light the bulb at all. I have not had a real power outage to test it out timewise. I’m crossing my fingers, hoping it works when I need it most. Very pretty product. Very heavy duty.
Update: Owned it for 2 1/2 years now and it is just collecting dust. It still does not work. It only worked one time. The bulb that is designed for use is not stronger than a good battery operated lantern or candle. Save your money.
This product is amazing – we recently had a power outage from the snow and ice storms here in the East and the illumaguard worked like a charm. The power went out but our lamps that were plugged into the product stayed on. I could make dinner, read, and even do a little cleaning (ugh). It was so much better than having candles everywhere. Thank you!!
I live on the east coast and we are experiencing sporatic power outages due to the storms from the past few days. I purchased my illumaguard several weeks ago and when the power went out last night my light flickered off and immediately came back on. I turned it off when I went to bed and early this morning when I woke up to no power I turned it back on. It’s amazing. It lit up my family room, kitchen and stairs. I turned it off when it got light out and since then the power has been restored and the illumaguard is recharging. This is truly a great product and works exactly as advertised.
