This is a very cordial discussion with everyone seemed to be agreeing on everything. Basically they all think that the Pope’s visit to America is successful, and that he is a scholarly, worthy, ethically correct leader of the Church. They point to the large crowds he has brought out in the United States and consider his capacity for bringing about revived interest in the Church. They also indicate that the Pope is aware of the problem of making the Church interesting and vital for the twenty- first century.
As a non- Catholic I found this segment a very instructive one. However there was not much said about the Church’s relation to Radical Militant Islam and the impression that the present Pope had been intimidated by the Islamic protest made against his remarks on medieval Islam. i.e. The values of ecumenical appeasement reign in this discussion, and the question of the dignity of human beings everywhere to be free from radical Islamic jihad and racist sexist discrimination is not truly raised in this discussion.
