  13. Love the songs. Good sound. Used to watch his TV show, and "Goodnight Mrs. Calabash wherever you are." Just now looking up the spelling, I found out who Mrs Calabash was! The owner of a restaurant in Calabash, North Carolina. Just a friendly place to have a meal, and she had no idea who he was when he said he was going to make her famous. I am so happy the secret is out. Look it up 🙂

  19. We now have two CDs . One fore the car and we go to sleeep listening to the other. CD has g.reat chorus and orchestra with Jimmy singing old standards

  25. You gotta love Jimmy Durante. This album has most of his really good work on it. He puts so much feeling into his music. He’s not Bing, or Deano, but he sings ’em like only he can.

  27. THIS IS A TREASURE TROVE OF MUSIC POPULAR IN THE 50S AND 60S; MID-CENTURY MODERN SO TO SPEAK. I LOVED THIS FUNNY MAN AND WISH WE COULD SEE MORE OF HIM ON TELEVISION FROM THE "GOOD OLD DAYS."

  36. I’ve had this CD on my player for the last two weeks. Listen to it every morning with my coffee. and it’s a great mellow way to start the day. Durante sings like he talked, with great feeling. Remembered mostly as a funny man with a big schnoz, he has a way with a song lyric that will melt your heart. I have had \\”Hi Lili, Hi Lo\\” stuck in my head all week, humming and singing it as I go about my day, mowing the lawn, walking the dogs, etc. But it’s only one of many beautifully orchestrated and wonderfully interpreted tunes on this LP. There’s not a clinker in the whole bunch. If you like the standards and you liked Durante’s tunes included on the [[ASIN:B000TS5CJW Sleepless In Seattle]] soundtrack, then you will love this CD. Highly recommended.

  41. I probably own at least a half a dozen of this cd!! I give them as gifts, I have one in my office, one in the car and it’s loaded onto every device I own that can play music! Durante could never sing opera, but the songs on this cd are perfect and emotionally delivered. It’s a sweet cd filled with lovely songs. I hope everyone enjoys the Great Schnozola on this cd as much as I do!!

  46. The CD was received in excellent condition and worked well. The audio quality is excellent and the Jimmy’s performance is just what I had hoped for.

  47. I purchased this cd just to get "As time goes by", which is a classic, but ended up liking some of the other selections as much, or even more. especially "If i had you". Wonderful!

  48. To listen to Jimmy is a wonderful trip back to a time when life was more peaceful, simple, and true. His voice and style of singing was unique and his choice of songs was wonderful. This CD is a perfect addition to our collection.

JIMMY DURANTE-AS TIME GOES BY/THE BEST OF JIMMY DURANTE: Most people remember JIMMY DURANTE as an all around entertainer and consummate, charismatic showman…but not everyone knows that besides cracking jokes, acting in movies and fracturing the English language, "The Ol’ Schnozz" also had a tender, winning way with a tin pan alley standard. Lending his world famous gravelly pipes to lushly orchestrated versions of SEPTEMBER SONG, YOUNG AT HEART and the CHARLIE CHAPLIN-penned SMILE, DURANTE summons up the same dollops of genuine feeling and heartfelt enthusiasm he brought to everything he did. Although he started in show business as a ragtime piano tinkler/saloon comic known for cute novelties like INKA DINKA DOO, these relaxed, straight renditions are as bright and welcome as a sunny spring morning. Appropriately for a collection as sentimental and nostalgic as this one, AS TIME GOES BY concludes with DURANTE’s signature closing line "Goodnight Mrs. Callabash…wherever you are."

  50. What a wonderful collection of Jimmy Durante. If you were going to pick up just one disc by Jimmy Durante this should be it. In the 1960’s after Jimmy made his last movie It’s A Mad Mad World he had a string of successful pop albums. Durante reinvented himself again as a serious musician. Classic songs with lush production and beautiful strings and melodies. This is a wonderful collection of 60’s pop songs. A Heartwarming, Sappy and Fun collection of some of the best material from Mr Durante’s long career. I would highly recommend this wonderful collection to anyone who loves Jimmy Durante
