The Washington Capitals learned Thursday that four players, including team captain Alex Ovechkin, will miss at least four games because of a positive coronavirus test and COVID protocol rules. Goalie Ilya Samsonov tested positive for the virus Tuesday, the Washington Post reported. He, Ovechkin, Evgeny Kuznetsov and Dmitry Orlov now are in quarantine. The newspaper reported that during a stay in Pittsburgh, where the Capitals played Sunday and Tuesday, the four players gathered in a hotel room to watch sports and play video games — actions that violated the NHL’s COVID-19 protocols. “We knew the rules,” Washington head coach Peter Laviolette said. “We’re not sitting here saying that we were uninformed or we weren’t aware.
