A Beaverton-area man fired a shotgun outside his home Monday to scare away crows and ended up in handcuffs, authorities say. No one was injured in the shooting near Catlin Gable School. Deputies arrested Mark W. Mordini, 66, and booked him into the Washington County Jail on accusations of unlawful use of a weapon. A teacher at the school reported hearing a gunshot around 12:15 p.m. and seeing someone running into a nearby home with a shotgun, according to the county sheriff’s office. Deputies soon arrived and found Mordini, who matched the shooter’s description. At some point he admitted to deputies that he fired one shot to scare away the birds, the sheriff’s office said. Mordini was no longer listed as an inmate at the Washington County Jail as of 8:40 p.m. He did not immediately respond to a message left at a number listed in his name. — Everton Bailey Jr. [email protected] | 503-221-8343 |@EvertonBailey Visit subscription.oregonlive.com/newsletters to get Oregonian/OregonLive journalism delivered to your email inbox.
