Eagle County emergency employees worked through the night to repair a gas leak that forced the evacuation of residents and led to the rerouting of traffic. Residents of Old Edwards Estates could be allowed to return to their homes Friday morning, according to Tracy LeClair, spokeswoman for Eagle River Fire Protection District. “We’re hoping to reopen the access road by 10 a.m.,” LeClair said. Residents will be allowed to return to their homes shortly after that, she said. LeClair said the gas leak was at a construction site on Edwards Access Road Thursday night. The Eagle County Sheriff’s Office ordered residential evacuations of Old Edwards Estates just before 9:15 p.m. Residents were told to bring their pets, close all windows and doors and shut down mechanical equipment including furnaces. People slept on cots set up at Edwards Interfaith Chapel, 32138 US Hwy 6, in Edwards.
