Wayback Burgers, an international restaurant with locations from Chowchilla to Brunei, is projected to arrive in Fresno by late 2019 or early 2020, according to Chris Shane, managing partner and founder of Gryphon Capital. Gryphon Capital is the development agency working on El Paseo Marketplace. This will be the first Wayback Burgers restaurant in the Fresno area. The franchise has locations in 30 states and nine countries outside the United States. Representatives from Wayback Burgers were not immediately available for comment. Based in Connecticut and started in Delaware in 1991, the chain is known for its halal options, which means food served there is allowed under Islamic dietary laws. Shane said Wayback Burgers is just one of the businesses set to occupy more than 200,000 square feet of development at El Paseo as part of phase two. Phase one, which opened in 2014, is anchored by a Target store. Future tenants include Regal Cinemas and Hobby lobby. After phase two, El Paseo will consist of 600,000 square feet of retail space.
