A man shot and killed himself during a traffic stop in Lyons on Friday evening, according to authorities. Boulder County Sheriff’s Office Cmdr. Mike Wagner said the county received a report of a drunk driver near North St. Vrain Road and Apple Valley Road around 7:30 p.m. Wagner said a deputy pulled over the suspect vehicle near Second Avenue and Evans Street in Lyons a short time later. “At one point during the interaction, the driver pulled a handgun and put it to his head, threatening to shoot himself,” Wagner said. “Deputies tried to negotiate with the man, but he wasn’t responsive to their attempts. Mid-negotiation, and unannounced, he shot himself.” Wagner said deputies rendered medical aid, but the man died at the scene. The sheriff’s office dispatched detectives to the scene, and the Boulder County Coroner’s Office also responded. Read more at dailycamera.com.
