A keen-eyed Hoboken resident spotted an alleged package thief one day after being victimized, leading to the man’s arrest, police said. Richard Diaz, 44, who police described as homeless, was charged on Dec. 4 with stealing a package from a building in the area of Bloomfield and Ninth streets in Hoboken, Lt. Edgardo Cruz said. Police Officers Dominick Allegretta and Orlando Moctezuma responded to the area of Sixth and Washington streets regarding an incident that occurred the previous day, Cruz said. The victim and a friend told the officers that Diaz, who was still at the scene, was involved in stealing a package from a building on the 900 block of Bloomfield Street. The package was valued at $200. After investigating, police determined that Diaz had been involved and he was arrested and taken to Hudson County jail.
