A 20-year-old Tarrant restaurant worker was caught on camera stealing money from the business, according to police. Authorities said Damoneko Johnson, of Birmingham, was the shift leader of an undisclosed restaurant in Tarrant. Early Friday, said Det. Cpl. James Butterbrodt, surveillance cameras showed Johnson taking the money. He turned off the lights inside the store and then turned on his cell phone flashlight. At that point, according to the video, he grabbed a food bag and began to load cash from the business safe into the bag. He got away with about $1,400. Several attempts by police to contact Johnson Friday morning have been unsuccessful, Butterbrodt said. Johnson is being charged with third-degree theft of property and currently is on the run. “It doesn’t make sense. Cameras are everywhere in the building,’’ Butterbrodt said. “To be in a leadership role and steal is uncalled for.” Anyone with information on Johnson’s whereabouts is asked to call Tarrant police at 205-849-2811.
