BURLINGTON,Vt. (WCAX) In October, Channel 3 reported that the property near the Church Street Marketplace was up for sale. Bishop Christopher Coyne said there were just not enough parishioners, and the church could not continue to operate with a $75,000 to $85,000 deficit each year. Earlier in the year, the church was demoted from a cathedral to a parish. It has been a staple for the Catholic community in Vermont for more than a 150 years. The original church burned in an arson fire back in the 1970s. The final mass begins at 10 a.m. Saturday.
