A Boulder man accused of attempted murder is in critical condition after an apparent attempted suicide at the jail on Thursday. Joshua Male, 40, was found in his cell hanging by a noose fashioned from torn fabric at 11 p.m. Thursday, according to a release from the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office. According to a release, an inmate called for help after finding Male in his cell. Another inmate tried to hold up Male to allow him to breathe while deputies and medical staff were able to free Male from the noose and perform CPR. Male was transported to a Boulder hospital but later transferred to a Denver-area hospital, where he remains in critical condition. Male never regained consciousness during transportation. An initial investigation suggests no foul play and that the incident was self-inflicted. His cellmate said he had been asleep at the time and did not know Male was going to attempt suicide.
