STRINGTOWN — A 22-year-old man was killed in a Friday evening wreck along an Atoka County highway, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported. About 6:30 p.m. Friday, Michael Thomas, 48, of East Peoria, Illinois, was driving a tractor-trailer on an Atoka County road. The rig was attempting to merge onto U.S. 69 when it was struck by a car driven by Jacob Durkin, of Fayetteville, Arkansas, troopers reported. Durkin was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the car, Christie Conway, 27, of Centerton, Arkansas, was taken to an Atoka County hospital to be treated for her injuries. Thomas and a passenger in the rig were not injured. Seat belts were in use in both vehicles, the patrol reported.
