SALT LAKE CITY — Boston Celtics wing Gordon Hayward was booed enthusiastically in his return to Utah against his former team, the Utah Jazz. The boos started when Hayward walked onto the court for his individual shootaround and continued throughout the pre-game activities. They hit a fever pitch when Hayward was introduced as a member of the starting lineup. The Jazz announcer made a point to include the fact that Hayward was a former member of the team when he announced his name. That probably wasn’t needed — Jazz fans were well aware of who Hayward is and were ready to let Hayward know how they felt. For his part, Hayward appeared to be laughing at the boos. He also appeared to be chuckling during layup lines, when Jazz fans were so committed to their displeasure, they booed him at every available opportunity. Watch the full Celtics’ starting lineup in the video above. Hayward made his first field-goal attempt — a layup in transition off a nice pass from Jaylen Brown. Hayward also pitched in an assist in the early going, finding Al Horford out of the pick-and-roll for a slam.
