As bad as 1968? That club of coaches Joe Collier and Harvey Johnson finished 1-12-1 and burned through four quarterbacks: Dan Darragh, Ed Rutkowski, Kay Stephenson, Tom Flores. It scored 199 points over 14 games. As Bad as 1977? Those Bills of coach Jim Ringo finished 3-11 and scored 160 points, the franchise record-low under quarterback Joe Ferguson and a fading O.J. Simpson. As bad as 1985? That team coached by Stephenson and Hank Bullough, the king of malaprops, finished 2-14 for the second year in a row. What made it worse than 1984 was that it scored 200 points, the franchise record-low for a 16-game season. Vince Ferragamo and Bruce Mathison were the quarterbacks. As bad as 2001? That team of current Cleveland interim coach Gregg Williams went 3-13 and scored 265 points behind quarterbacks Rob Johnson and Alex Van Pelt. Heading into Sunday’s game at the New York Jets, the Bills have scored 96 points, their lowest total ever through nine games.
