ST. PETE BEACH, Florida — A woman was seriously injured Saturday after trying to save a child from a current in St. Pete Beach. Woman seriously injured trying to save child Child was caught in a current The woman and children were taken to a hospital Samar Aboukhdair, 36, and her six children and two of her neighbor’s children were near Pass-a-Grille Beach. Four of the children were swimming in the water when bystanders heard them scream for help. Witnesses were able to pull two of the children safely from a strong current. Aboukhdair went after the third child and got caught in the current herself, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office. St. Pete Fire Rescue arrived and rescued the two remaining children and Aboukhdair from the water. Aboukhdair was taken to a hospital and, at last check, is listed in critical but stable condition. Three of the children were also taken to a hospital as a precaution.
