A 2-year-old girl was killed Friday night in southeast Texas after she was mauled by her family’s dog. Officials were called to the home in Alvin, about 30 miles south of Houston, where she was pronounced dead after the attack, according to KPRC. The girl’s family had returned home from a shopping trip and left the girl in the front yard with the dog while they took items inside, the TV station reported. The dog, a mixed-breed pet, had no prior history of violence or aggression, officials with the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office told The Houston Chronicle. “There’s nothing the family could have done. It’s just a horrific, horrific incident,” an official told the newspaper. The child’s body was taken the Galveston County Medical Examiners office for an autopsy, according to KTRK, which reported the dog was euthanized.
