STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A bishop will celebrate the NYPD Blue Mass honoring officers killed in the line of duty on Oct. 25 at Our Lady Star of the Sea R.C. Church in Huguenot. NYPD Commissioner James O’Neill and Assistant Chief Kenneth Corey, the borough commander, are expected to attend the service that will include the blessing of officers and their St. Michael medals representing the archangel and patron saint of police. Bishop John J. O’Hara will be the main celebrant at the evening Mass that will be followed by a dinner in the cafeteria of the grade school. As vicar of Southern Manhattan and Staten Island, Bishop O’Hara is the top Roman Catholic religious leader assigned to our borough. The Mass is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. in the church at 5371 Amboy Rd.
