Darren Cooper North Jersey Record Published 10:00 PM EDT Sep 28, 2018 RAMSEY – Jalen Berger ran for two touchdowns and Kevin Monangai scored twice on the ground and in the air as Don Bosco Prep defeated Pope John 37-0 on Friday night at Granatell Stadium. The win sends the Ironmen to 3-2, which is one more win than it had all last season under coach Mike Teel. Pope John fell to 0-5. With quarterback Jahquil Batts sidelined after suffering an injury last week against Bergen Catholic, the Ironmen used four different players at the quarterback slot, with Berger and Monangai each running plays out of a Wildcat set. Jake Tarentino started the game for the Ironmen, and sophomore Jake Robbins entered in the second quarter, throwing a 10-yard touchdown pass to Monangai. “He was out with an injury last week and I am hoping we get him back next week,” Teel said about Batts. “We have a next guy up mentality. Jake [Robbins] is a young kid, talented, but I wanted to see him get out and play. You’re always working to build depth.” What it means Don Bosco needed a confidence-lifting win as it enters the meat of their schedule.
