Natalie Neysa Alund USA TODAY NETWORK – Tennessee Published 1:59 p.m. UTC May 25, 2018 A Portland police officer shot a suspect Thursday night following a vehicle pursuit, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. The pursuit took place shortly after 8 p.m. on Denning Ford Road, the TBI said. Portland Police were notified of a pursuit that began with another agency, Chief Anthony Heavner said in a news release. Portland Police located the vehicle in question, which was occupied by a male and a female, and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The driver then attempted to flee and was involved in a crash on Denning Ford Road near Portland Lake Road, Heaver said in the statement. The driver apparently attempted to flee further on foot. At some point after the crash, the TBI said, the officer fired his weapon, striking the suspect. The condition of the suspect was not immediately known, but following the crash he was transported to a Nashville hospital. The TBI does not identify the officers involved in officer-involved shootings and instead refers questions of that nature to their respective department. No further information is available at this time, according to Weaver’s statement. This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
