TV tonight: More ‘X-Files’; ‘The Amazing Race’ returns

The groundbreaking sci-fi/suspense saga returns again in “event-series” form as Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson) learn that they aren’t the only ones desperately searching for their long-lost son, William. But where is he, exactly? The 10-episode season will be booked-ended by episodes directly tied to the core mythology. The eight hours in between are stand-alone “monster of the week” installments. “grown-ish” (8 p.m., Freeform): You’ve seen “black-ish.” Now get ready for “grown-ish.” It’s a spin-off comedy series that follows Zoey (Yara Shahidi), the Johnsons’ popular, entitled, stylish and socially active 17-year- old daughter, as she heads into her freshman year of college. “The Amazing Race” (8 p.m., CBS): The globe-trotting competition series kicks off its milestone 30th season from Washington Square Park in New York City. Then the teams travel to their first destination, Iceland, where they must traverse a massive canyon high above the Geitargljufur River. “The Blacklist” (8 p.m., NBC): In the midseason premiere, Liz abandons her old life and seeks out a fresh start in a place where no one knows her history, her name or the depths of her grief.
