Ellen Ciurczak Hattiesburg American Published 5:29 PM EDT Sep 10, 2018 Following the Hattiesburg High football game against Oak Grove Friday night, several members of the Hattiesburg High marching band displayed signs of fatigue, dizziness and nausea. All 54 band members were transported to the hospital as a safety precaution, Samone Wilson, Hattiesburg Public School District communications coordinator, said. “The safety of our students is our highest priority,” a statement from the district read. District officials along with personnel from the Lamar County School District are investigating the situation. All students were examined at local hospitals and released. At this time, the cause of the band members’ symptoms has not been determined. “The school buses transporting the band members were tested and there were no signs of carbon monoxide or any other harmful substances,” the statement said. “Rumors about HHS students being under the influence of drugs have not been substantiated. “We are asking all HPSD students, staff, parents, alumni and fans to help us in not spreading rumors or making innuendos in reference to the incident involving our students.” Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Hattiesburg Public School District Central Office at 601 582-5078.
